I liked it too! I thought it was smart of them to cherry-pick things they liked from various games and then create their own original protagonist, rather than just doing a straight re-hash of the first few games or movie.

Some of their character choices were odd, though. Reiko and Nitara are deep dive, C-tier pulls from the 3D console titles many people did not like (although I did!). Also I thought it was interesting how they foreshadowed later, bigger events in the overall story without showing them explicitly, like the painting & statues of Shao Kahn, Quan Chi's medallion, symbols of Shinnok carved in to stone.
