Ok, so the answer to where have I been. I was already kind of just a lurker by the time it happened. On my Birthday, which was 3/17, we were evacuated from our home, due to the flooding of the Missouri River in Iowa. All 3 levees between us and the river had failed, we were also 6 1/2 miles from the river, so we never thought this could happen.
Anyways, we officially only had about 4 hours notice, but we started getting pictures and sentimental stuff out the night before. We lost most of our stuff, but it is what it is. We had water at our place for 31 days, 8 days of that was at 14 feet. Only about 3 feet of my roof was sticking out of the water.
We didn't have flood insurance, not a flood plain, well, wasn't before the flood, lol.
FEMA called our house a total loss, and I have spent the last 5 months living with family, with the belongings we did save in storage. Dealing with FEMA &SBA is something I will never wish on anyone, they say they are there to help, but there are so many hoops to jump through.
We finally got our new house, way better than the last one, in another town, and on a hill. Been there about 12 days now. Just got internet 2 days ago. And got my laptop out of storage yesterday, as I couldn't remember my password here.
So here I am, back to normal now, after a hell of a time the last 5 months.

Sorry to hear that happened. "Always get a house on a hill" is my family motto after Hawaii. Or is it "Always kill a mouse for the thrill" Idk. Anyway hope things are looking up the rest of the year for you guys!

FEMA sucks. I have a friend who's roomate was in FEMACorps after Harvey and she said that basically she was incapable of helping anybody becaseu nobody could qualify for FEMA benefits and they weren't allowed to do anything else to help people other than sign them up. It sucked. That all sucks. Screw climate change
