SEC is the power conference its hard to have one without them. They might as well put a tie-in for the SEC.

What if... The SEC isn't a power conference. What if it is just always ranked so high that when it loses to itself, it doesn't drop in value because it's losses are all sec? What if years of bias has given sec teams too much credit over the years and makes it impossible for other conferences to be rated as highly?

if the sec isn't a power conference then no conference is a power conference.

This is a bigger argument than I care to get into right now, but I will say this, college football is cyclical. It has been around for longer than 7 years, which people tend to forget. It wasn't much more than a few years ago that the Big East had some good teams and people were ready to disband the ACC.
To say the SEC is far and away the best conference based on the performance of 4 teams out of a 14 team league is faulty logic. SEC has ballooned thanks to a flawed system in which previous seasons influence the perception of strengths of wins and losses. The fact that middle of the road Big 12 teams came in and competed for SEC titles within 2 years shines a light through the smoke and shadows the the BCS has allowed the SEC to perpetrate over the past half decade. Missouri played for the SEC title and TAMU knocked off eventual champ Alabama at home last year. Nebraska, however, went to the perceived weaker conference in the big 10 and has been a 4-loss team each year.
I'm not saying the SEC sucks or anything like that. I think that there are some great teams, but the perception of the SEC as some type of superpower is hype perpetuated by media, especially ESPN who has a multibillion dollar contract with the SEC.
I'll stop before I write a book.

No conference is a power conference. Each has some good teams and some no so good. Only one has the not so good teams ranked as high as the other conferences good teams though.

in the last 15 years SEC has been to the BCS championship game 9 times (not including this year which makes 10) and is undefeated in that time frame, i would classify that as a power conference.
technically they are 9-1, but only bc Alabama beat LSU in the game, but still.

That doesn't refute my claim that conference supremacy is a media driven myth. The BCS poll is made up of 67% human vote. The fact that Alabama was number 1 because of no better reason than, "they won it all last year," is hypocritical when it's so easy to say that OSU's 24 game winning streak doesn't count and drop them behind team after team throughout the season.
Like I said, I'm not arguing that there aren't good teams in the SEC, but it isn't the be all end all of college football like everyone likes to make it out to be.

I wasn't directly discussing your media claim of conference supremacy, but rather showing evidence they have been relevant for longer then you claim, and that its not like it has been undeserved for them to be in the BCS championship game.
I do think its a joke how the rankings are handled throughout the season though, and im glad a playoff system is being implemented next year to get rid of this garbage.

No doubt a playoff is needed. It's preposterous that the NCAA has gone this long without it. However, 4 teams is not enough. There are more than 4 deserving teams every year. I bet there will be 8 teams within 5 years. Then we will actually be able to properly crown a champion that has truly won it on the field, the way it should be.

Agreed, but honestly as of right now 4 teams is much better then the travesty we get now. I mean with a 4 team playoff you get winner of PAC-12, Winner of Big 12, and the winner of the SEC, and 1 wildcard spot which what it will usually break down to, which i'm ok with.
Rutgers vs Alabama in the BCS championship next year confirmed.
