I cannot really make an informed statement about this subject, as I honestly wasn't even aware this was being voted on yesterday until I heard it mentioned on the radio. I need to do some reading before discerning how I really feel about it, but from what I've read in this thread alone, it sounds like a nice try.

I'm not really a big Obama fan, but first of all, congrats to him for managing to pull something having to concern health care through this Bureaucratic mess. Secondly, being a resident of Massachusetts, the things that it sounds like this policy set forth Nationwide have already been in effect here for over a year, yet our state's rules are even more strict.

I don't really like the idea of requiring health care for all citizens, however (I believe that is something Melissa mentioned, but correct me if I'm wrong). When this when into effect in MA, there were many complaints, and yes, even with all jobs forced to provide health care to their employees, it is difficult for many to obtain it here, for whatever the reason (unemployed, part time, etc.). If I remember correctly it was also instated in MA in a way to generate money for the state, and last I heard the state was actually considering repealing the law because it was doing the opposite.

Again, this is an uninformed opinion, gathered from what little I've read and heard so far, and my experience with a law of this nature here in MA. It will be interesting to see how this will play out...

The problem is everybody wants to bring politics into an issue that shouldn't be about politics. It should be about what's best for the American people and fixing a system that's fundamentally flawed. People like to bash Obama and say he's a Socialist but they seem to forget that it was good ole W who gave 700 Billion dollars of tax payer money to the fuck holes who caused this financial crisis in the first place.

edit: We also need to realize that the bill was only passed in the House. It still has to go back to the Senate and then to Obama.

Ok first off, there's no such thing as middle class. That's a yummy lie you've been fed for a long time. It tastes good but it isn't true.

Second, I can't find my glasses so I had trouble focusing on the specifics, but I saw something in there about donut holes.

Currently I am a childless adult living just below the poverty line, say about 106%, and am uninsured. What do I need to do to get the government donut holes before 2014? I could really go for some right now.

Also, I'd like to point out that there is an emergency clinic just down the street from me. When I have something seriously wrong, which is infrequent, I can walk in there and see a doctor for $55. An antibiotic script is about $7. So right now, being uninsured and relatively poor, my medical bills for the year are $66 which also includes a bottle of generic Excedrin.

If my dumb ass lands in the hospital, I might be glad of this new forced healthcare stuff, but unless something really serious happens to me, it kind of blows. I don't want to fork out $700 a year for something I probably won't use. I have never believed in insurance of any kind and I'm already pissed I have to have it on my car.

I don't think we need another padded government system to wipe the ass of the typical ignorant American, I think we need to tell people to be smart with their money so they might be able to handle an emergency, and meanwhile stop feeding the fucking bureaucracies and the insurance companies, that way medical shit wouldn't cost so much.

You know why the clinic I go to only charges $55? Because that's all it costs for them to do a little paperwork and get a doc in to see you for a few minutes. No companies involved, no phone calls, no government subsidies. You know how much it costs to see a doctor for a few minutes if you DO have insuance? Check your paperwork next time you do. You'll be surprised.

And don't even get me started on the fucking fleecing hospitals do.

That is the exact, and very valid argument that I and many others made when the law was passed in Mass. There are many, many people in the same situation as you are in Meta, and this plan does nothing but force them to pay around $700 a year, either for health insurance, or as a penalty for not having it. Make sense, much?

Yes you really can if it takes effect iKidd since insurance companies won't be able to turn away people with pre-existing conditions. You can just get insurance when you actually need an operation, why waste money on insurance when you're healthy? This will of course cause premiums to go up.

The government can't fool the market. It's like when they tried to reform banks, the banks just found new and different ways to charge their customers. Our health care system as it is now has flaws, but this bill won't do much to fix them, just create new probelms.

Quote by Bay:

Yah!!!! More taxes on families that bring in 200,000 or more. /sarcasm

So, like the government is spending more money our nation does not have? This is fantastic. I'm so happy for the people who sit on there asses all day selling drugs and collecting unemployment all day are going to be able to have good health at my expensive. Of course my generation is going to have to worry about paying all this off but, hell what is another 1 trillion. I mean seeing as the whole united states is only worth about 5-6 trillion and we are about 12 trillion in debt. :D

This is such an uninformed opinion, I don't think there's one thing correct in here. First off, the tax will be an increase on INDIVIDUALS who make more than 200k a year- families would have a higher amount. Second, the extra tax comes out to like- 6k a year, which isn't that much, considering how much income said people will HAVE in a year. Third, the statement "MORE taxes on families who bring in 200,000 a year" insinuates that families in the higher tax brackets already pay their fair share of taxes, and they do not. If you care to read up on the subject, here's a start, although it is old, and with all the tax cuts now to kickstart the economy, I'm sure the numbers are higher: http://www.usatoday.com/money/perfi/taxes/2008-06-11-taxes_N.htm

These extra taxes will be paying for the program and will start CREATING money to pay off the deficit within 10 years, if everything goes as projected.

In addition to THAT, I'm ignoring the insulting insinuation that everyone on federal assistance is a bunch of drug pushing lazy bastards who sit at home and do nothing (there are over 400,000 new unemployment claims every week, thanks to this economy- that's a lot of drug dealers!) and the insinuation that you, as a 15 year old boy, are contributing ANYTHING to society that makes you feel superior to the men and women who have fallen upon hard times and are struggling to make ends meet and can't afford health insurance, and just point out that PEOPLE WITHOUT JOBS ALREADY ARE HAVING THEIR HEALTH INSURANCE PAID FOR AT THE EXPENSE OF THE TAXPAYERS AND THE GOVERNMENT. It's called MEDICAID, and MEDICARE for the elderly (lazy old drug pushers living off social security!).

The people who will benefit from health care reform aren't the rich who can afford to go in and pay cash for a kidney transplant without thinking twice. And it's not the poor, who already have a great system in place (seriously, medicaid is GREAT. They pay for EVERYTHING, even ridiculous, unnecessary expenses). It's for people living ABOVE poverty level who can't afford to pay more for health insurance coverage than they do for rent, only to get their claims turned down when they actually need to USE their insurance.

Okay, I'm gonna good ahead and say I am fully insured, and I can got to the urgent care for $20 (usually free) since my mother is a employee there. As far as me making the statement " I'm so happy for the people who sit on there asses all day selling drugs and collecting unemployment all day are going to be able to have good health at my expensive." I regret this statement, as I discussed this with a colleague today I came to see the light as far as it not necessarily being truthful. I mean I understand shit happens people lose their jobs but, still jobs are OUT THERE. I mean it may not be that job that brings in $150,000 but, still. Me personally I am going to do whatever it takes even if I have to get a job at McDonald's. Granted these people how take low paying would probably be put on medicate which is fine I mean we have paid for this all along. I suppose I just wasn't raised to just stop and say "oh, shit can't get a job oh well." I mean most people just can't think on their own nowadays I mean oh I got fired from my job being a electrical engineer well time to look for a job that's for a electrical engineer and not attempt to do side work. Anyways I'm segueing off topic.

As far medicate I am familiar with it I actually have had the opportunity to volunteer at a hospital and I saw a man who got a pacemaker put in and medicate paid 100K or so dollars for it which is a great system as you said. You also said it is paid for by taxes which is true but, like I said it wouldn't bother me too keep it in pace since it does benefit our senior citizens.

As far as why I'm better than unemployed Americans, well by no means am I. No matter how much education I receive from school can I be fully prepared for something that is unpredictable i.e. life. However, I am trying to better myself by going to school and then pursuing a college degree. As of now I have done nothing for society but take up space and breath air but, that's the beauty I still have the rest of my life to make a impact. I will be getting a job this summer at Chick-Fli-a to buy my gas/pay insurance which is one step forward.

Okay, over all conclusion I am trying to get as is that I'm concerned about having to pay this off in my generation which, you addressed with taxes. I don't believe is enough to cover it. I would much rather see Mr. Obama address the energy crisis i.e. oil companies. The price of the barrel drops while gas prices go up, (it cost close to $100 to fill my truck with diesel fuel) which is one thing I thought Mr. Obama would address when he was elected. I was also hoping for nuclear power (like France) our power bills would be like $20. The last I herd they were working on something...... So, hopefully you're right about taxation covering the expenses and I do think it is good for those with previous conditions (something I over looked).

Lady Evol: I hope you give me more credibility than my age, I 100% regret reveling my age since some members seem to be quick on my case (not you).

@My original post I gathered that off Fox News.
