Great game so far...I just finished the first disc. I really hope Sazh stops sucking at battle though.

more epic than Cid in FFX..?
Not quite that epic, but still pretty heavy. You'll approve.
And yes, it does cost THAT much to max stuff out. Once you get to about the fourth tier of Crystarium stuff, the points costs increase exponentially. Growing from one orb to the next goes from like 200 to 8000 to 187329234592^12.

As the Crystarium develops, you'll be able to better tailor each character to what you want them to be good at. On top of that, Sazh makes an excellent Synergist because he gets Haste so early. But really, once you're further in, you'll have more choice to use who you want and grow them however you see fit.

Weehaw double post get! It's ok though because 1) this information is important, and 2) the last post was already a novel.
Anyway, I found a great grinding spot! It's in Chapter 11, on the Archylte Steppe - Northern Highplain. You will encounter it when you are heading toward the mark of the second Cie'th mission.
After a save point you will start to head down a path that winds between mountains, and you'll see a Megistotherian and a Behemoth King fighting. This means you can run up to them, get a pre-emptive strike, AND they'll both be at half health and targeting each other!
Make sure you have at least 1 Medic, hopefully with Esuna, and then also bring either a Saboteur or a Synergist, depending on how you like to fight.
Go into the battle with your paradigm set to whatever is your most potent offense and kill the Behemoth King ASAP. If he transforms into that standup mode, pause and Retry. Why? You may still win, but it will take way too long which defeats the purpose of grinding.
After the Behemoth's dead, attack the Megistotherian. It is susceptible to Deprotect and Imperil, so I hit it with a Saboteur. If you have a Synergist instead, just get Haste on everyone then switch back to your offensive paradigm.
Shouldn't take more than a minute and a half, worth 6600 crystogen points. Not bad! 5-starring it will also increase the chances of decent drops, of course.

if i remember, one of the creators said that this game will NOT have DLC because he believed that this game delivers the full experience on its own. i'm actually for the idea of no DLC because i'm not a fan of add on storyline segments, it just doesn't feel right for some reason.
as for the guide, let me put it this way: as you are playing, do you feel as if you need help to get through the game? if you do and you have some money for it, then go ahead, but i'm sure if you have problems, many of us here would be glad to help you out here and there. next point, do you enjoy reading extra materials in strategy guides? if you do, then i'd definitely pick one up, preferably the LE guide as it is packed with LOTS of extra reads. i personally own the few guides i have just to read up on all the extra non "guide" related stuff that they include, such as storyline analysis, character profiles, etc. although i have no clue what the difference is between the normal guide and the LE one since i only own the LE...

Technically speaking, the best end game farming is going through a bunch of certain missions late in post-game, netting you around 100k CP every 20 minutes or so for a well developed party. That aside, the Death strategy people use on Adamantoise is actually not the best for post-game CP farming. The reason it's so popular is because their rare drop is a Traphezedon (spelling) which you need to upgrade any weapon into its ultimate form. Usually these cost 2MilGil to buy, so it's very nice for farming those, just inconsistent (with farming equipment its only a 5% drop chance). I still think Megistotherian and Behemoth King farming is the best, I am able to kill them both in 6-8 seconds, run to the save point and back and net 13,200 CP each time.
