I've been looking forward to this game since it was first announced, and pre-ordered its collector's edition as soon as it was available on Square's site. I wouldn't call the XIII trilogy my favorite in the franchise (title belongs with V and VIII), but I've had an absolute blast with XIII and XIII-2.
you're definitely in the minority there, 13 was ok, and 13-2 was the biggest piece of shit i've ever played.
that and it had the dumbes/most hilarious ending ever.

Dont play star ocean 4, the characters are awful.
4 might be the worst game within it's own series but it's still one of the better Jrpg's on the 360. The combat is insane.

that's not saying much though considering the only really worthwhile traditional jrpgs on 360 are lost odyssey and tales of vesperia.

Magna Carta 2, Resonance of Fate, Agarest War, Agarest Zero and to a lesser degree Enchanted Arms and The Last Remnant. All solid Jrpgs.
Edit: Lost Odyssey is #1. Kat smells.

I said worthwhile rpgs, the only one you listed that wasnt complete garbage was magna carta 2.

Clearly since FF IX is the pinnacle of the genre to you, we have VERY different tastes. The Agarest games are great. I doubt you even played them.

I stopped playing the first half way through, it was a garbage grind fest srpg (which is essentially a different genre btw.)
Fire emblem and FF tactics, and even tactics ogre are superior in every way.

None of which are on 360. Anyway I disagree, moving on...FF XIII-3 is probably going to suck. Trailer is amazing though.
Edit: Apparently hope talks constantly to you the entire game and warps you back to back when you go past "Curfew".

Grind fests are like 99% of the genre. Hell even Skyrim is a grindfest at heart.

I doubt Snappy had the focus to play Agarest Halfway through considering agarest is like a 100-150 hour game
