Do any of you ever reminisce on threads past?
05/11/14 1:45 am | #1
From active member to now long time lurker. Do any of you ever go back to the old archived threads and just read them over for a good laugh? Or am I the only one?
Either I'm spending a little too much time on Reddits /bestof or does anyone else think XBA needs a best of link?
How can new members not read classics like http://xboxamerica.com/threads/The-Neverending-Story or the http://xboxamerica.com/threads/EVOL-AND-RAINE-FEEL-FREE-TO-THREADJACK-D-/page/1]
Just too bad so many of those members deleted their accounts or changed their tag on here, so some context is lost. And those people know who they are.
well just wanted some opinion.
Oh and anyone know whatever happened to zoboa?

Some old threads have some good stuff hidden in them. Unfortunately they are pretty tough to find.

My original claim to fame. http://xboxamerica.com/threads/The-official-mixed-drinks-thread/page/5/#post-312938
I totally just went back through all the threads I ever started. Most of them were horrible.
As a long time site Lurk, I really miss the days of higher traffic around here. I hate the days that I log on and the most recent posts were from hours ago. And I pretty much check the site once every hour at the least.

Yea I know what you mean Haze, but its kinda part of the fun to look back n find the diamond in the rough. Almost 7 yrs of threads I'm in/seen, lot of ground to cover
Hate to burst your bubble Boyz…but i get an error screen, n can only find up to page 3 in search bar.
And I might need to try this
BUM RUSH (inspired by Condemned 2: Bloodshot)
Run a lemon wedge around the rim of a cocktail glass, then cover with coarse salt. Crush a few ice cubes into a cocktail shaker, then pour in 1.5 ounces Arita tequila, 2/3 ounce Triple Sec, and 2/3 ounce lime juice, and drop in a couple of chili seeds. Shake and pour into the glass and attach one chili pepper onto the side.
I know what you mean, doesn't quite feel the same anymore. But after so many years things kinda die down, hopefully it picks up. But then again I'm sure I'm not helping considering i only post here every couple of months...
That and I don't recognize sooo many names here now :/

I sometimes read my old threads from when I was in high school and cringe.

Raine is the original HAXXOR, she lives in the darkest corners of XBA. It wouldn't surprise me.

Weird. Its working just fine from that link for me. Maybe because it's my own thread? Its just hilarious to me looking back on the way I used to type and the things I would say and shit. I was only 13 years old who the HELL let me be on this site then? Granted I'm 18 now and still say dumb things, but it's a different kind of dumb. I wonder if AJ knows he was boosting that Sonic game all those years ago with a 15 year old? That one achievement is the only time I think I can remember playing online with anybody from XBA.
Kind of sad I've always really loved the community just always felt too young to actually be a part of it so I've just lurked consistently for 5 years waiting until one day I'd be old enough. Next year's the year though. I'm going to be bringing my Xbox to school and its gonna be a whole new world. I've been planning on hosting some sort of forum contest and giving away one ridiculously unnecessarily expensive prize to the winner, I think it's finally going to happen next year.

Im pretty sure at one point this site could have been a headliner for Dateline to catch a predator haha. But yea, i was i think 16/17 and I can't believe some of the shit that came out of my mouth, or typed out, at the time. there really should have been an age restriction here lol. Hell i remember the good old days of grinding out N+ with crustyhippy and having a personal sniping vendetta with him on CoD4.
Didn't you know that next year is part of "tomorrow" all sorts of awesome and wonderful things are planned for "tomorrow". and you just let me know if i can join in on that little tourny of yours.

THIS THREAD has always been my personal favorite. It was definitely a sign of things to come. It's too bad that half of the thread is posts by deleted users.

To bad we can't write a book, "Memoirs of XBA", id buy it lol.
yea i see what you man, really sucks that i can't read all of it. and apparently it did foreshadow quite a bit. why was junior banned again? I remember some arguments, but not the whole reason.

Hahahaha hell yes I do! I enjoy old threads more than new sometimes. :3
I like the Evol and Raine thread- speaking of foreshadowing lololol.
But yeah- i read through old threads when i joined and I have a pretty good memory so it's rare I can't pull something up if you're looking for anything in particular. The exception would be the few months after Raine died and then the months between Melissa Evol disappearing and the triumphant appearance of the secretive, super attractive Kat.
As far as site traffic goes, the other staff can tell you that this is a big issue with me. While so much could be restructured on the site to help and it's out of our hands, my biggest suggestion is just to post post post! When I first joined I made an intro thread and forgot about the site for 2 weeks. When I came back my intro thread was still front and center (the site was set up differently, so there wasn't a front page, but it wasn't buried). It was a slow site. I posted things that took days to get replies. So I just kept at it. When Evol and kidd joined, then taco, there were a ton of people posting as much as me, so there became a lot of back and forth, and a ton more traffic. In a few months, we added up to a quarter of the posts on the site. And I'm not going to lie, lots of people didn't like it, and the flaming drove up page views lol. Over the years, the site ebbs and flows, but if you see something from hours ago, and it's not your post, why not post? That person may be waiting for a reply and conversation could be sparked!
So many people use xba as a monologue- which is fine, but if you want frequent posts, you've gotta come in and do your part to make it a dialogue. on top of that we definitely need fresh meat and the release of xb1 is a good opportunity to get new members so don't forget to spread the word. I'm thinking a summer tourney is in order as well, so if anyone has ideerrs, pm me and we can get our gears going about that.

Looking back over some of the threads that have been mentioned here, I kinda get the gist of what was going on. With all of the 'deleted user' messages, some of the intent gets lost. Bummer.
