I always did mine in the dark there were even a couple years when it was snowing out. But then again there was always an adult with me up until i was about 10.

how is it scary in the afternoon? That defeats the whole purpose behind the holiday. If you're scared for your kids, don't let them go alone. 'Nuff said.

At night. It's a better Halloween atmosphere. If parents are worried about safety, they can accompany their children.

I voted for night becuase I think it just sounds stupid to go trick or treatin with the sun all up in yo face, but to be honest it depends on where you live, sometimes its safer to do it in the afternoon.

it should be started when it gets dark (4:30 pm) and it should stop at midnight cause you don't want to keep the people giving the candy out up too late and besides it would be November 1st at this point.

No one came to our house last halloween cause the people who lived here before us were really snooty and didn't get into the Hallowe'en spirit.

As a parent of course I am worried about my son going out trick or treating. But hey that's why I go along with him. Its more fun in the dark (aren't a lot of things??) and plus if it was at 5 I would miss it almost every year. A lot of people just want their kids to be safe without doing anything to help with it. Oh well...... Dark!!! Then you can get out the dry ice and water and make a nice fog and jump out of it and scare the crap out of people who come up to your house too....

I think parents nowadays are a little too...darn I can't think of the word...Anyways, I think parents assume one of two things 1) that everyone is out to get their little kid. 2) that their little child can come to no harm.
I cannot say which one comes up more often, i think equally. Parents, it is YOUR job to take responsibility for your child, not anyone else's. This applies to SO many things it ain't even funny. (Just my views, not attacking any parents here. Parents is used in a general sense)
practice safety with your child. Do not talk to strangers (other than saying trick or treat), do not eat the candy until it has been inspected in a good light at home, etc.,

well it was a goal to see who could fill our bag full of candy first. plus there were lots of egg throwing and other things going on. halloween used to be fun and i always ate all my candy and it never got inspected and i turned out fine.

Anyways, yea, whats the point of halloween without the darkness!
I cant understand with the kids, but my parents take my lil bro around and give him the full halloween experience.
