But think of how much the storyline of 8 was geared towards girls! It was nearly ENTIRELY comprised of stuff for girls. Nearly every character was involved in a romantic story, the song Eyes on Me was brilliant, the art was done to be pretty- even the boys were pretty! It's the first Game OST I've ever purchased, and I still love most of the songs off it!
It would be sacrilege for me NOT to love it!

Does this mean something is wrong with me as a man since I loved FF8 and felt it's love story was emotionally powerful? (jk)
I agree FF8 was in a lot of ways marketed to the fairer gender but it was a great game. Musically, its score is up their with classics like castlevania SOTN and enchanted arms.
Oh, and allow me to toss up some recs per platform
PS1: Legend of Dragoon, Xenogears, FF8
PS2: .Hack series (I AM SUCH a fan of .hack I nearly cried when .hack fragment was ONLY in JPN and got shut down in like a month. Ive played all 7 .hack games to death), Persona 3, FFX
360: Eternal Sonata is art itself between the music, the beautifully composed asthetics, and the sweet gameplay. Star Ocean is a great series and the combat is above the bar of common standards. But the achievements are INSAANE

LOL! Those are some of my faves as well! I'm a huge .hack fan also. I didn't start playing until GU, then I had to go back and buy the older games- when I ran out of those I had no choice but to DL the animes!
And insane achievements REALLY seem to be common in the 360 jrpgs- They're just so time consuming to 1k!
Some of my "old school" faves (besides FF ones lol):
PS1
Arc the Lad (as a series)
Shadow Madness (the funniest game EVER...)
Lunar Silver Star Story
Chrono Cross
Valkyrie Profile
PS2
Steambot Chronicles
Star Ocean til the end of time
Ar Tonelico
Atelier Iris
Arc the Lad Twilight of the Spirits
^_^
OMFG ! I think youre my new XBA friend now lady evol !!! so much jpg knowledge...
I played the .hacks with kite first, and the haseo ones (g.u) rocked my world. Total awesome.
Oh, and the fact you played VP AND LUNAR, two underknown and underappreaciated games, simply epic. Lenneth is one of the collest fem game characters hands down.
And since you like ar tonelico and games from gust it would seem, did you ever play mana khemia? it was like a leveled up version of the atelier iris series.
And star ocean: the last hope, HANDS DOWN, hardest game to max jrpg wise

Most of the good JRPGS are released on nintendo DS.
The world ends with you was simply amazing.
The 360 has had a few quality JRPGS:
Tales of Vesperia,
Eternal Sonata and
Lost Odyssey in my opinion are all good games.
FF13 will annihilate them all however. There is no doubt about that.

Im sorry but considering all FF's since FFX havent been that stellar for me, so im hoping FF13 rocks.
At this point, Magna Carta 2 (LOOKS GREAT), Resonance of Fate (looks meh, but its tri ace, ill still hope), and FF13 (about time its coming out in 2010) are the big hopes for me in regards to JRPG.

of the ones I've played on the 360, Tales of Vesperia is by far the best one. Tales games in general are top notch jrpg's. The story line is so epic, tons of character developement and hundreds of hidden thing that require multiple playthroughs to acquire, plus the combat system just seems to get better with ever game. I haven't played all the tales however because they seem to come out on different consoles each time...weird.
