you start new drivers off by basically getting them a "bumper car" i guess youd call it...because 11/10, new drivers will wreck their car because its the inevitable....of course
not taking sides here or anything, but i've been driving since i was 14 and i've never been in a wreck. if you're constantly observant of your surroundings and you don't speed, the chances of you making it from point A to point B in one piece are quite good, lol. of course, you always drunk drivers to worry about and people who run red lights and what not, but they could hit anyone, regardless of age.
Exactly. Its not like this is the first time I'm driving either. When you grow up on a farm, you don't worry about age and shit. I've been driving my grandpa's truck for about 4 years now down there.

I have been driving since I was 14 as well, my dad taught me how to drive stick back then and I've never been in a wreck either, however I think Taco's point is quite valid.
I'm not trying to start anything, but whenever taco is in on anything, you agree with him... Just sayin'

They bought a BRAND NEW truck for a kid who doesn't have a permit even. IN WINTER. I don't think it snows much in KY, but it does occasionally- the 3 winters I lived there were a mix, but there were ice storms and snow storms. It's just not safe.
With the storms we get anybody who goes out it needs to be checked out. Our snow is either nothing to worry about or we have shit closed down. Who said I
have to be out in the damn storm anyway? Common sense.

On top of that, a new truck for someone who can't even drive by himself for.... however long it is in KY- you have to have a permit for a year in FL and GA when you're a minor- is sort of a waste. Getting a car for a kid who only has a permit is a waste, because you know... they're going to want to drive. They're gonna want to and they're going to think "Well, I haven't crashed at all when I'm out with my parents."
Besides all that, it's usually "the other guy" you have to worry about when your kid is on the road- bad drivers, drunks, cops- they're all out on the road, and crashing a new car is just so much worse than a used one! And teenagers tend to have a lot more distractions when they're driving as well.
I hate when people group all teenagers into one group and label them all. Not every one is stupid enough to go out and drive while its still illegal for them to. And if it is this ''other guy'' its not like he's targeting teens. That could happen to anyone, any age. And with someone else at fault its not more likely to happen to one person as another.

I'm not saying your grandparents are RETARDED, lol, Doc. I'm just saying I think wanting to look good to you and make you happy won out over common sense and foresight in this instance.
I mean- there's a reason you have to have a permit first before a license... it's because when you first start driving, you aren't as good as someone who has been driving a while. There are things you learn with time and experience.
If they were just trying to make me happy they woulda bought a '69 Mustang. I don't know how common sense got into this but since it is, don't you think as long as I use mine I won't
cause any wrecks. I can't help it if some drunk decides to get on the road and hits me. Neither can you, or Livewire, or Fragg, or anyone.

That said, at 30, I still wouldn't buy a NEW car. Depreciation makes it a bad decision to buy a car newer than 3 years old. You are losing money every day. Plus everytime you park in a store lot and a cart crashes into you, it's sickening to come back to tiny dents and scratches on your brand new car!
Well when you can get a new truck for just a about 2,000 bucks more than a used one, its a good decision to buy a new one. You get a warranty, you know it hasn't been fucked up, and whatever. You kinda sound like someone who likes to save your money, make sure you don't waste it, not that that's a bad thing but my grandparents say they'd rather see us enjoy whatever they have instead of giving it to us after they die.

Uh, no. That's retarded either way. Either way, new car or used they're still a lot of money. But thanks for telling me I have an idiotic family
Hey, don't worry man. My dad bought me a new Mini Cooper in early November. I'm seventeen and have only had my license for a little over a year and a half. If your family wants to buy you a new car, hell yeah! While inexperienced drivers are more likely to get into accidents, anyone can drive safely if they just pay attention and act responsibly.
Besides, I wonder if there is any relationship between the car a teenager drives and the number and severity of accidents they get in. It seems anyone in a car they appreciate would be more concerned with keeping it nice. I love my Mini Cooper, and preserving her is a major reason to drive safely.
Exactly. People are acting like I'm gonna go crazy and just be a moron about it. It might happen, it might not. Like I said if its gonna happen and its on someone else's hands, nothing we can do about it.
