Carnivale was really good. Then again that was a HBO series and not a movie so he wasn't relied on to carry it. That's one HBO series that was canceled too early. It's worth a rent or netflix.

Doesn't HBO cancel all their TV shows early, like right as they hit their prime HBO pulls the rug out from under em?
No, not all of em. The Sopranos lasted 6 seasons, The Wire lasted 5, OZ was around for 6 seasons and Curb Your Enthusiasm is coming back for it's 8th season after the new year. Carnivale and Rome are the only two HBO series that I can think of off the top of my head that they cancelled early, both after only two seasons. Rome had to be one of the most expensive shows ever to make though.

Not really a movie but I'm watching all the episodes of The Office on Netflix, I must it's really quite funny. It never really makes you laugh out loud but has a lot of witty humor that makes you smile.

Deadwood and Six Feet Under were finished quite early as well running 3 and 5 seasons respectively, idk just seems like even 5 seasons isn't that long of a time.
Yeah, I forgot about Deadwood, loved it, but I never cared for Six Feet Under. Deadwood's early demise was really more creator David Milch's fault than HBO anyway and if Six Feet Under had lasted any longer then someone else would've been cast as Dexter and who knows how that would've worked out. I'm glad that Six Feet Under ended just for that reason alone.
