There is no amount of money in the world that I would throw at somebody to get them out of my hair, if I was to go on the rest of my life standing as an accused child molester. Guilty or not, no way.
If I pissed on some girl or beat up someone's grandmother, fine. I'll pay the money. Marked as a child molester, no fucking way. I would go bankrupt fighting that image.

I love Michael Jackson. I have no idea if he molested that kid, but I do know I love his work. Since I have no reason to assume the legal system failed, I'll just assume he's not guilty.
I don't think that's true at all. A lot of people think pleading the fifth also implies guilt but any trial lawyer worth anything will recommend his or her clients always plead the fifth.
Also, it's important to remember that Michael Jackson only settled out of court in the civil case. He still had to face the criminal case and was acquitted.

No matter if he fought it and won, he would have still been considered a child molester...just because of that old saying that you can do good your whole life but if you do one thing bad....THAT is what you will be remembered for, and nothing you do from that point on will change ANYBODIES mind.
^ This, plus

^ this is why I'd throw X amount of dollars at it rather than spending X dollars plus Y amount of time.
At the end of the day, there would be millions of people that never met me who decided for themselves whether I was guilty or not. No amount of money can change people's opinions on things that aren't actually relevant to them. But a nice lump of money can be the difference between chilling at my themepark mansion with llamas or sitting in court and having to do more press conferences.
...if, uh, I had a themepark, mansion and/or llamas...

And yeah, R Kelly was aquitted... and you can bet now if Conan or Jay make child pornography jokes or peeing on girls jokes about him on TV, he'd have a lawsuit ready to file when the courthouse opened the next morning!
He'd have to sue Dave Chappelle then too. That was some of the funniest shit I've ever seen. "R Kelly's DooDoo Butter" LMAO
