A person sleeps horizontally so horizontal for me, but at my place of employment we put them Vert. for space reasons and we destroyed about 4 games that way by some one moving the system. It will put a nice scratch alll the way around your game quiet esily! Thank god it was only guitar hero 2 and madden 08 lol (I hate those games)!

I will always choose -Horizontal.
If a cat knocked over my vertical system it could easily burn a ring into a playing disc.
Vertical systems make me nervous.

I have both my XBOX 360 and my PS3 standing up vertically. I don't know, it is not really a preference, I just do it that way because it easier fits in my little TV stand. But from the things I have always heard, I will probably remain a vertical man until I d.i.e.

Well for me this is why its hard to choose....
Horizontal....the mother gets warmer than normal...and we dont want that..., and dust fall right to the bottom.
Vertical......the biggest vent gets covers eliminating maximum "cool air suckage".....

I lost Dead Rising and Gears of War to a vertical console getting knocked over.
Both times were completely random too, no animals no kids not even any moving air yet the unit suddenly flopped over and dug a ring into the game.

The last box I had, I used vertically. My most recent RE5 special edition red Xbox will never be used vertically. Don't ask why... I just feel that using my last one vertically may have contributed to the RROD.

Maybe I'm just being paranoid.

I have heard that switching from vertical to horizontal position can be bad. You should pick either vert or horizontal and stick with it imo.

Come to think of it, the last Xbox I had was switched to horizontal after being vertical for at least 6 months.
That could definitely be the reason it RROD'd on me!
Thanks for the heads up, sir.

Having it vertical makes the system more susceptible to grinding a ring into your games if there is any movement. As long as your system is up off of the floor and not enclosed in an entertainment center, you should never have an overheating problem.
360: horizontal, PS3: horizontal, PS2: horizontal, Dreamcast: horizontal, Wii: in the toy box (but seriously... it was vertical but is now horizontal to match everything else. Don't fix what hasn't been broke for 30 years)
