Woo! My thread got a re-up! But uh... I'm not a parent so I'm just not going to post my opinion on it due to the inevitable fact that someone will come in and say "You're just 16! You shouldn't even be playing M games for another 5 months! What the hell do you know about anything?"

Yeah, probably nothing bad would happen.

Games can work both ways you know....I do think that in some cases games can give misguided children ideas that they think would be cool in real life....But in alot of other cases games can be "a release".
Lady Evol seems very in the know on games which sets her apart from other parents and can tell which games are acceptable and which are not even if theres a drug refference or curse words she has the right to decide whether its a game she will alow her kid to play.

LOL! Well you're 16... you DO play M games... I'm guessing you didn't start this year... and as far as I know you've never shot up a high school... and you're mature, talented and most likely have a seriously bright future ahead of you with your photography.
So if anything, you're a great point for my argument.
Nope. I started played shooting games on the Genesis with my mom when I was like, 3. I was always more interested in sports but I enjoyed those too. The first one I really played a lot though, was GTA 3. I dunno when that came out, but whenever it was I played it at my cousin's and yes, my mom knew. My dad didn't give a shit.
I would like to say, though, that good parenting can only go so far. My mother and grandparents were/are teaching me right from wrong, all that. But, when I hit a certain age, I just started re-thinking everything.
Up until then, I was a hardcore Christian, because I raised that way. Now I'd consider myself agnostic, by choice and re-evaluating my thoughts and beliefs. When (by when I mean if) I have kids, I'll let them play whatever they want. I know for a fact that the best way to fuck up your kids is by being over-protective or forcing ideas down their throats.
I'm a good example of that, but I don't necessarily think its a bad thing. I swear, and do other things that society (my family included) think I shouldn't.
I'm rambling now, sorry. This is what I didn't wanna do, lol, but thanks for the compliments Raine. And Irish, fuckin' awesome picture.

Real talk, these games are rated for the purpose of protecting children. Some kids can't handle games like COD where as others aren't. So since you can't rate games for certain kids, you have to punish them all. I still would let my kids play it, but theres probably no real danger from it. I guess I get carried away.

I'm not about to actually enter my personal opinion into this argument.
I think it is pointless as the two sides (or more) will never agree. I can see it from both sides.
One side will point out that as long as you have a job and don't kill anyone etc...you turned out great while the other will point out deeper core values etc.
This wasn't meant to be a shot at either side, but the two will never align/agree. If they do then they weren't really on the extreme of either side to begin with.
Parenting is like religion...everyone thinks theirs is right.

I like psychology so far. I was in electronics. I got an electronics technology associates degree and hate it, I guess I would be building robots at the time and shit. When I graduated I got a job working on Street lights. It sucked.
My mom wouldn't let me play video game til I was like 15, it sucked.

You won't learn much in school its all just THEORY, Knowing how to apply that ever changing THEORY is where you will actually start learning.
As i'm sure LadyEvol has learned not all things she was told about parenting apply to her child or was it children?
Either way everyone is different and need to be handled differently, because if there is a set instruction manual to people (this includes all children) why isn't it given to everyone to read?
Parenting is a skill that goes far beyond anything you can learn in college, because it many majors and jobs wrapped into one.
I grew up just fine with the lack of parenting from my parents, but prehaps I didn't need much, just a videogame system and a TV.

See this was part of your upbringing if you would have played videogames earlier in life which I willing to bet you did at a friends house would your life be very different?
