You are picking specific things to define a genre, when clearly DD and Dark Souls fit the bill.

Otherwise your telling me Kingdom Hearts is not in fact a JRPG, but games like dragon age are.

which is ridiculous.

Clearly they do not, I'm not sure how much more clearer I can be, Dragons Dogma or Dark Souls is nothing like FF, Tales, Persona, chrono trigger, dragon quest.

Why don't YOU tell me what you think a JRPG is since you cannot or will not understand what I'm saying.

All i'm saying is that your logic in what defines a JRPG is flawed.

if it's turn based that defines JRPG then agarest(this is a strategy rpg gtfoh) tales and kingdom hearts get excluded.

anime based characters also removed Lost Odyssey and Kingdom Hearts.

bright colors, really? the color pallet determines what type of rpg it is?

whereas, if these are you sole basis' for an argument, then kotor and dragon age are jrpgs. because if a RPG made in japan can not be considered a jrpg, it only stands to reason a game outside of japan can.

tldr; jrpg is an over encompassing genre, with sub genre's like SRPG, turn based, action, etc.

WRPGS and JRPGs are almost 2 entirely different genre's at this point for how different they have become.

Aghhh are you really not getting it or is this an act to be funny?

What part of running around hitting one button as an attack in real time making a game an action rpg is confusing?

Yes, some jrpgs have anime look and bright colors. Some are turn based. Yes. But if a game is a hybrid of rpg and hack and slash, it falls in the action category not Jrpg.

You're using Jrpg to mean any rpg made in japan and that's not something many people will agree with you on. When I talk about genres, I get much more specific than where a game was made. Action rpg, strategy rpg, western rpg, eurotrash rpg.

So we're talking apples and you're arguing bananas.

I think what we should ALL be agreeing on is how great this review is, not bogging it down with what everyone thinks defines a certain genre.

No, what i'm saying is that JRPGs are essentially their own separate genre now, and that action rpgs, strategy rpgs, turn based, etc all fall under that.

I also wouldn't say this is an argument, more of a debate of what the jrpg genre means nowadays.

Great review here Kat, as always. You answered some questions I had about the game, mainly in how the timer affects gameplay and how it feels to have fetch quests be the meat and potatoes rather than grinding random encounters.

You also confirmed some feelings I was having after playing the demo, which I wasn't sure about, so now I know I definitely do want to play the game, just not necessarily right now and at $60.

Also, I like that you enjoy Lightning's rack but I don't understand your "respect" on it--are you saying you like the fact that they didn't put in breast physics at all, or are you just saying DoA and the like over do it? 'cause I could agree with that. I feel like some jiggle physics are fun, but it's easy to go overboard and made it weird and boner-killing.

Good review, Kat.

I heard about the time element when the game was first released and I am going to skip this game because of it. An RPG is a game I like to take my time with, not having to rush through it allows me to enjoy the story and grind a bit here and there.

Lol I enjoy a good rack as much as the next person, but in this case, I respect the fact that they left the physics out of this game. It doesn't fit with the character of Lightning or the seriousness of the plot. If you're a woman and you're doing anything requiring physical activity, you strap the girls in tight because it's not all about appearances. So for game designers to devalue a woman lead by throwing boobs in that are attached to her knees is disrespectful to women. Ashley Riot's buttless chaps weren't fan service after all.

It's one thing in a game like doa volleyball lol, but when it's a serious game with a female protagonist who is supposed to be on par with any male lead of any rpg, it takes away from the idea that women are any more than just a bouncing pile of breast meat. I guess as a woman I just get sick of the message that a woman's worth can be measured by the size of the boners she gives. And it's pervasive in the video game culture.
