People are idiots for breaking the law. I don't care if it "should be legal" or whatever, the fact is that it is not legal. If I was a police officer in your area I would arrest you douches in a heartbeat.
Quote by Chiddy Bang:
Just because authority exists doesn't mean it should be followed, respected or even tolerated. Actually, I'd argue it's each individual's duty to stand up against arbitrary rule.

Legality means absolutely nothing.
This.
Thank you.

You can't always use that as an argument though, while yes we all should be able to live our lives as we see fit sometimes somethings need to be enforced whether you like it or not. Such as drunk driving, just because you may feel that you should be able because you think it's right does not make it so.
It's actually a ridiculous argument. If people's decisions only affected themselves I could see logic in it somewhat, however that's just not how life is. Psychopaths have no concept of right or wrong, so do we let them just go around murdering people because they don't think it's wrong? Do we let drunks go around driving because their judgement is impaired and they think it's ok? Do we let child abusers keep at it because they find nothing wrong with what they do? Do we stand idly by while old people with 2 carts full of shit push in front of us into the express lane, while we stand there with our ONE item?
Laws are in place for a reason, normally to protect people who don't yet know what the consequences of their own decisions will be. The older people get, the more they'll understand that there are very few decisions that they will make in life that will only affect them, and no one else. Every person in here complaining about the government or other people or whatever telling them what to do, or what's right or wrong will at some time cling to laws when it happens to be THEM the laws protect, rather than protecting other people from them. Everyone wants total freedom, until the world turns into The Lord of the Flies...
Those "rules" don't always thwart crime, either. At the end of the day, people need something to make them feel secure, and rules and laws do just that, but they have no value. If I want to commit a crime, I will; it's impossible to catch everyone. Some crimes fall through the cracks and go unnoticed. So, with these rules and laws, how are we any better off than when we started. However, in today's time, rules do exist, I abide by them, but not because I'm forced to. The idea of a lawless world has some appeal to me, I don't believe people are inherently evil. I think MOST people will do the best they can given their situation.

It's actually a ridiculous argument.
The stuff you followed this with shows you don't actually understand what the argument is.
The world already is the Lord of the Flies. The difference is, instead of each person deciding which character/part they are playing by their actions and changing from situation to situation as they learn, the characters/roles are taken up by institutions and frequently forced onto those who aren't lucky enough to have the resources to determine their own status.
It doesn't matter that psychopaths have no concept of right or wrong, you don't let someone do what they want because of what THEY think, you let them do what they want because of what YOU think. That is how a society works, since it's a group of people.
Because the vast majority of us agree people shouldn't be psychopaths, we could easily form a band of anti-psychopaths and kill them. This will get rid of some, possibly most, of the problem.
You talk about a world without punishment, but that is absurd. I am talking about a world where the punishment is doled out by admittedly imperfect individuals and not a faceless mob of badge numbers that act without personal moral impetus and without fear of reprisal.
Do you want to know why "everyone in here complaining" will at one point cling to laws? Because we have to. The reason I have to cling to law enforcement to deal with criminals is because I can't. The laws that "protect" you are the same laws that bind your hands and force you to abide and adhere to consumer society.
Personally, I'm not talking about "total freedom" or anarchy, as one doesn't exist and the other is impractical.
I am talking about genuine personal responsibility for your actions, and genuine consequences, versus using a small group's decision to navigate your life and determine what you will or won't do and how you should be dealt with.
I realize that "the older people get" the more they want a nice safe box to exist in where they can do as they please without fear of reality intruding, but some of us don't like the box that's being built, and an awful lot of us are trapped outside it anyway.
Every decision you make impacts others as well as yourself once you enlarge your perspective. Why do you feel like strangers that may not even be alive anymore are more qualified to make decisions for you than yourself?
I'm not saying let drunk drivers do what they want because they want to do it, I'm saying the LAW should let people consume marijuana because more than half of the people that respond to polls say it should. That's what the law is supposed to be, a current and relevant agreement, right?
And the way you guys liken doing drugs to driving drunk or being a psychopath is both hilarious and a huge straw man.
+edit+ After reading the other posts again, I realize you may be talking to U7ysses more than me or anyone else, but still...

And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat.

Not that which goeth into the mouth defileth a man; but that which cometh out of the mouth, this defileth a man.

I wouldn't say any of the three are angry. They're just debating their beliefs. And in all honesty, did you actually think that making a thread about an illegal substance wouldn't have at least a small amount of controversy?
On another note, school was fun today . Half the kids didn't show up and another fourth were running their mouths non stop about how their afternoon was going to be "great."
