So, Meta or anyone, do you think this game is worthy of buying for 40 bucks? I have a 20 off coupon and was thinking bout picking this or Driver up, plus if I get it by Saturday I can get another 15 off...

If you plan on playing through the campaign at least twice and also getting some good hours in to multiplayer, then I'd say yeah buy it.
If you only really care about the single player and don't like to play games more than once through, then I'd say wait for it to go down a little bit.
They are going to release a free DLC "Horde mode" patch in a few weeks, also.

What's the multiplayer play like? Is it strategy style like the original Warhammers on PC? Or is it hack and slash deathmatch style?

The free co-op "horde mode" patch is finally going live. It is already available for PC and PS3, the Xbox version should be up some time later tonight.
The mode is called "Exterminatus". You can learn more here:

Just in case anyone else still plays this or wants to check it out...
THQ has added a bunch of new stuff to Space Marine.
First off, there are 2 FREE downloads. One is a Capture the Flag mode, the other is a moving-objective mode, and both of them also include new maps that work in every multiplayer versus mode.
There are also 2 DLC items you can buy, 800 points each:
Chaos Unleashed gives you a new Exterminatus map to play with 2-4 friends and a new mission--as Chaos, you fight Orks and Imperial Guard at the same time! These forces will also fight each other when you aren't directly involved, and the latter couple waves have Space Marines teleporting in to fight.
Dreadnought Assault gives you new Versus maps and a new hold objective--when you capture the point, one of your team members gets to control a fearsome Dreadnought! The dominating team can use the mech to destroy the enemy team's base.
On top of these, they have also released a bunch of smaller DLC items. All of the pre-order "relic" weapons are for sale for 80 points each, and there are also a few new Chapter armor sets available for different prices. Space Marines get Salamanders, Blood Angels, and Legion of the Damned; Chaos gets Alpha Legion, Death Guard, Iron Legion and... this other one I can't remember.

I have this game sitting my shelf still sealed, and I've been looking for info on the coop portion of it, but cannot find anything definite. So, like I always do when I'm all out of options and have no other choice, I'll ask Meta: Is there a couch coop mode? Is it only the free Exterminatus mode that is couch coop, or did they patch it and add coop to the single player?

I assume by couch coop you mean local multiplayer? Unfortunately, there is none. The only way to do MP stuff in Space Marine is over Xbox Live, and the only cooperative mode is Exterminatus which has 2 free missions that take place over 4 arenas/maps each for a total of 8, and then Chaos Unleashed adds 1 new mission over 4 arenas.
This game would definitely have benefited from optional coop in the Campaign, and splitscreen would have been nice.

Yes, I meant local coop, and that is what I expected, but upsetting nonetheless. It seems like a lot of fans wanted local or some form of campaign coop, so I feel like the devs missed out on a relatively simple way to make the game even better.
