I'm about halfway through the campaign and it has been very enjoyable so far.
When you ratchet the difficulty up, it becomes a fun, violent game of chess at all times. You usually are alone or have only 1 or 2 squad mates near so you have to have a good battlefield awareness and know when to use each weapon most effectively.
The way they have it structured, it's sort of like the few difficult firefights in Gears of War campaigns but every now and then you clear a space in the field or a tougher enemy emerges and then you get to unload the really brutal, involved combos. The fact that the only way to regain health is to stun and execute enemies is pretty cool.
The online mode is also very fun. Each of the different weapons feel unique and punchy, and the way you can combine perks and your own playstyle are awesome. To top it off, all us closet-case design nerds can go as hardcore as we want with the "customizer" that unlocks at XP level 4--you can swap out individual pieces of armor, choose colours for primary and secondary schemes, decide whether you want additional ornamentation and medals/purity seals/horns/robes or if you just want the straight up Space Marine feel.
The leveling up system and the perks work well to diversify the combat, and you can copy the load out and perks of the person that killed you.
