Warning, wall of text to follow, by someone who used to post often and is mostly now a lurker....
I know I am not part of this thread, but being as I used to spend many hours a week running the Trade Thread, I felt I could add insight to parts of this.
Running one of these threads is very hard work, all the constant updates, all the problems are sent to you and you are expected to handle them. People would message me when issues arose where a trader didn't send a game, or a game got lost in that thread. Really the wasn't much I could do, I could make people's names red, big woop dee doo, the one's who really did steal stuff didn't care that their name was red. the one's who did care, would go out of their way to correct the issue. It looks like Dan and BP have corrected theirs, so kudos to them, they have proven they actually care.
I honestly think the trade thread failed because of my lack in the end to update it regularly. Hell, if I was updating it, I would be red(dishonest to those of you who remember what red was in the trade thread), as I have owed Rissa a game for months that I have not sent yet. I will message you on this Rissa, I apologize again.
I can vouch that trying to handle the issues "behind the scenes" only works to a certain extent. At what point do you say "oh well" and call the person out in the thread so everyone knows what is going on. I lost friends, some of them close, one an actual real life friend who lives near me, due to having to make them red in the trade thread. They no longer talk to me or game with me.
So to all of the people who just want to be negative about AJ and the way he runs the thread, it really is NOT as easy as you think it is. It is a real pain in the ass, that those of us who have done it, did it then or do it now for free.
It is a lot of work, even more if you are like me and work 10-14 hours a day, then have kids in sports, and have to then update your thread. Sadly, in the end I failed on mine and it pretty much died.
Please try to keep this in mind when judging how the thread is ran. No offense here AJ, so don't take it this way. All of us knew AJ before he became Staff, we all knew he can be cool at times and an asshole at times, all of us can be both depending on the situation. (I am sure Rissa categorizes me as an asshole right now......see above) Could AJ have handled it better, maybe, but none of us know how many times he discussed issues with the individuals outside of the thread before making it public.
It sounds like the most recent issue has been resolved, and I hope Daniel stays in the thread and doesn't let this sour him on it. Looks like BigP left, shame, I talked to him sometimes.
I hope my info helped explain a little of what those of us who run threads like this go through.
I hope to join this after this Christmas, as I think I might finally get a One this year....here's hoping......
