People forget one of the runner ups was mass effect 2. It's only weakness it was released in January so the ******* critics played it to much and didn't give it the GOTY award.

Oh yeah I forgot about ME3 and Portal. I agree that Portal probably won't have the mettle to be a serious GOTY contender.
Mass Effect 3 is a definite possibility--it can be nothing more than a slightly upgraded rehash of 2 and I'll still be all over it like white on rice.

. Red Dead wasn't GOTY, as far as x360a.org is concerned. In fact, according to the staff's final opinion, it wasn't even in the top three. Mass Effect 2 took that title. (Link at the bottom.)
And if Mass Effect 3 is released in 2011, that's getting my vote. Otherwise, I'm locking in my vote for FFXIII-2 (which is slated for winter 2011 in Japan, but still).

Eh, Deus Ex, Crysis 2, or Mass Effect 3. I doubt that Gears 3 will win GoTY purely that its a 360 exclusive, and that Gears 2 was a huge letdown compared to Gears 1.

I love MK games, even the 3D ones not including 4, but I seriously doubt that upcoming one will win or even be a contender for GOTY, just because it's a fighting game.
Street Fighter IV almost single-handedly rejuvenated the too-niche-for-its-own-good fighting game genre when it came out and it only made a few best-of lists out there and no GOTY.
Now, that being said, I am almost as excited for the new MK as I am Skyrim and ME3! The visuals are fucking amazing so far, and the way the devs keep talking about the gameplay being a return to 1 & 2 is awesome.
+edit+ oh yeah I forgot about Dragon Age 2 as well. It is going to be a battle between it and Skyrim, and whichever one gets more critical accolades will be the major GOTY contender. If by some miracle both games happen to be awesome then it will be cool to see 2 big-budget western RPGs going up against the usual shooters and crap for GOTY.
