So who isn't wondering when the next Xbox is scheduled to hit the shelves and what goodies are gonna come along with it? Well according to NeoGAF forums they found a 56 page roadmap of whats to come in the future for Microsoft and their game console that was leaked this past weekend. This includes a 2013 launch date for the still officially unnamed console.
Caution these documents haven't been confirmed but leaves something to one's imagination.
Many of the new "goodies" coming with the new Xbox have already been mentioned whether at E3 or by previous developers currently working on some of the new hardware such as 3D support, Blu-Ray, and continuous internet connection.
It also states that the new Xbox will be running windows 8 foundation. Its also rumored to have a "DVR" capability to allow users to record TV content while you are playing much like you can download content in the background while playing your favorite games.
The Kinect sensor is also getting an upgrade: better accuracy, voice recognition, and motion tracking for up to four players. That's not all for Kinect, according to Nukezilla, a pair of Wifi-enabled, augmented reality glasses are in the works. Marked for a 2014 launch, they would be a 4G-based mobile devices that users could take with them. The document says, the glasses would offer "real-time information on people, places and objects."
According to the roadmap it states that by the year 2015, Microsoft plans to shift focus to cloud gaming which leads one to wonder if this will be the last console that Microsoft plans on putting the time and money into producing. However if it does half the stuff mentioned do we really need anything else?
Obviously Microsoft refused to comment about the leaked document, they did however have it taken down from the sharing site Scribd via Covington & Burling LLP, a major IP law firm that represents Microsoft. With that being said, it adds a little more credibility to the leak.
So based on all the new tidbits recently coming to light is there really anything else we need our console to do other then maybe make the occasional snack while gaming or watching a film? Seems to me about the only thing the new Xbox wont do is make a phone call, take out the garbage, or check the mail.
