Yeah, it was all the union's fault. Horse shit. I personally say to hell with Hostess. It sucks for the workers that are out of a job but the company was run by a bunch of fucktards and their product is overpriced garbage anyway.

That's not at all biased towards the unions, huh? ^
"Bain style crony capitalism."
Lmao.
Even the teamsters are blaming the BCTGM. Not really too much room to spin this... 6000 people have cost themselves and 12,000 more their jobs, and cost me the wonderfulness that is chocolate cream twinkles, orange cupcakes, ho hos, ding dongs and fried pies.
Selfish fuckers.

I liked the listing for 2004 -
"Saving the company a reported $110 million dollars - money NOT reinvested in the business."
That's when things went south.

Come on. It's not like you can't get practically the same shit from Little Debby, Dolly Madison or TastyKake.

In hate to be the devils advocate here, but have you guys actually worked at a union company before?
I have, have you?
Yes for 6 years and I was part of my union and I can tell you that it's not for protecting lazy workers or bringing down corporations. It's there to protect you from the bit wigs upstairs. The ones that are trying to find an excuse to make your life miserable so you can up and quit or straight up find a reason to let you go. Then turn around and do away with your position and pass off the responsibilities to another worker in turn turning his job into a double job per say.
And why are they doing this? Because the big wigs want their raise at the end of the year and will do w/e it takes to get that raise. Even cutting your supposed 3 year cost of living raise or not get any raise at all just so they can get their 5%. If there weren't any unions then you might as well not even work honestly because you wouldn't be protected at all whatsoever from supervisors and directors and such and letting them get away with w/e they want. The problem isn't the employees, it's the greedy fucks sitting up high that want more. And they'll do w/e it takes to get what they want trust me.
And those lazy employees? In my company it's old guys that are 20+ years in the company and are pretty much just chugging along to retirement. Come back when you're 65 and put in 28 years into a power plant working your ass off and tell me you wouldn't want a little break sometimes.
Anyways those hostess directors probably cashed their chips already. They will be fine since they'll make millions off the stocks or w/e. the news is already saying they are selling off the brands to the highest bidder. Who's getting that cut? The employees? lol don't think so.

Omg shut your whore mouth!!!!!!!!!!! Seriously, none of those guys make anything close, but if they're smart one of them buy the recipes and start making them. Actually, dolly Madison is owned by hostess. And tastykake is grosss. I'm hoping Mrs. Freshleys buys them, I already prefer their chocolate cupcakes.
I need to go shopping... I've seen twinkies selling for $300 on eBay and I want in!!
@scarface- Sorry, I don't buy into the hype. The only difference between union companies and non union are that in Unions, there's a level of union big wigs who are also making more money than regular workers. Union leaders are not working schmucks like the members- they make a LOT of money. They're just more of those guys you think are out to screw you. Make no mistake, union leaders will throw every member under the bus if it suits them. And when union workers are making above the national wages for a job, who eats that cost? You think it's the CEO and CFO of the company? No- it's the fucking consumers. Meanwhile, unions are getting a cut of every paycheck, providing workers with the ability to slack off or strike if they get pissed that the shitty economy has the nerve to affect them.
Unions had their time and place, it's called the Industrial Revolution, before labor was organized and there were any lines of communication between people in other industries. That's not now. Now unions will be the reason that industry in the us fails. Demanding more for doing less might sound nice to you, but from an economic perspective, it doesn't work.
There's so much wrong with your post that I can't even address it all, but I will say that your 65 year old should be retired, not sitting around feeling justified in taking a paycheck while not doing the work. And he should be glad anyone would hire him at 37 anyway... But like I said, I can't even begin to address it all. It is just a lot of opinion and emotion without actual fact backing it, and it relies 100% on your personal experience at a different company in a completely different industry.
Regarding Hostess, people working at a company who is constantly having to be bailed out of bankruptcy should be grateful to have jobs and if not, quitting and working somewhere they're happy with- not demanding the company to pay them with money they don't have and most people in that field aren't making. That's not how the real world works. If I make $350k a year, and have 3 staff people working at my house for $50k a year each while the national average for their jobs is $35k and I get a pay cut where I'm only making $250k... I'm not going to take a hit in my standard of living- either my staff takes a pay cut or I find a new staff. And as overgeneralized as it is, that is basically what happened.
@meta- AJ's racist? Shocking!!!

Yeah; the only thing I lied about in my statement was the "kids" part because AJ is like 47 or 48, almost as old as you.
