thats almost as annoying as when people want a certain gamer tag and its taken so they add an x to the beginning and end of it so that they can use it.

I agree, having your real name in your gamertag would be a little more personal since they're insulting you by name. So, I think that using your real name is a bad idea.

I have my last name in mine, but considering that there are 1000's of people with the name "Loftin" in Texas I don't think I've given identity thieves anything to work with. I prefer my name over nicknames, personally. If being called a retard (or much worse) bothered me that much I wouldn't play on XBOX Live in the first place.

on topic tho, i think real names in gamertags are kinda stupid, especially considering that while making a gamertag microsoft themself says "do not put any person info, like YOUR NAME, ADDRESS, PHONE NUMBER, ETC" so that makes it even more dumb...its actually pretty simple to hack someone, especially if you know what youre doing...
