Anyone familiar with installing car decks?
If so, I just wanted to double check that this dash kit was complete with everything I need:
http://www.ebay.ca/itm/330642068538
Unfortunately we don't have a kit for my car (08 Altima Coupe) at my store, so I was going to just grab one off eBay. I wanted to buy it ASAP so it will be here by the time I decide to buy my deck.
Can you post a link to the stereo you bought. I've installed 3 or 4 for myself and friends so is say I have a decent idea of what to do. It looks like that kit will work, but there's a good chance you only need the wiring harness. That's the white cap with a bunch of wires sticking out in the bottom right of the picture. Depending on how 'clean and pretty' you want it to look. On all the ones I've done we just swapped out radios and didn't worry about how it looked i.e. the way it fits into the dashboard.

There's a new business in town that repairs consoles. They also offer flashing services.
What the heck is flashing? Does that mean that they can convert my console to play any game from any zone - or is it something else??

flashing is when you prepare the new disk drive for the console, it's needed when you buy parts and build or repair consoles.
you can find some crazy cheap disk drives for the 360 like under 50 bucks but you then need to get it flashed in order for the drive to work on your console.

I see. I thought it may have been something totally illegal like allowing your Xbox to play PS3 games. Something bannable.
On that same note - if someone opens up a console, gets it fixed, isn't there some telltale online trace that tells M$ that a console has been tampered with, thus allowing them to perma-ban the console in question?

there might be but im not a big tec guy so you would need to ask around with the guys that either mod/build or know more about it,i just remember the flashing info cuz i was looking into rebuilding my xbox a few years back and found out what was needed to do so,your probably right about the tracking.

I haven't decided on one yet, but they're all double dins, so I need the dash kit as right now the factory radio is only close to a "single" din size. And it needs to look basically perfectly clean and pretty haha.

Just an FYI:
A Flashed Xbox 360 is one that has had the BIOS reprogrammed, or has had a chip added to the system. This is usually done to circumvent security.
Quite often this will be done to allow the owner to play 'backed up' copies of games - a common euphemism for pirated games.
Flashed XBox consoles run the risk of being banned from Xbox Live. In regular system updates Microsoft began banning consoles, as Flashing the Xbox is against the terms of service for using the XBox or XBox Live.

Yea that one looks like it will work just fine. A couple other things you'll need for the job are pliers, wire strippers (or a sharp knife), and some butt connectors to splice the wires from the wiring harness to the wires from the stereo harness, here's an example:
http://www.amazon.com/Curt-Manufacturing-59421-22-18-Connectors/dp/B001GN6UKE/ref=sr_1_14?ie=UTF8&qid=1338221845&sr=8-14
Although you can find a much cheaper smaller pack of them at any hardware store. You just stick both ends of wire in and clamp down hard on it with the pliers. Easy and cheap way to splice the wires together. Then maybe some electrical tape to wrap it all together.

As long as nothing is changed illegally, then no. The only thing to show it is that the security sticker will have been broken, but if it is a MS approved repair shop, they should have new stickers to apply.

I've read a few guides online, and chances are I may just have my guys at work install it. I'd like to try and learn how, but not on my car, because if I were to hurt anything in it, I might kill myself haha. But thanks for the help, Cannibal

Being able to run unsigned code is called jtagging. That will definitely get you banned. Flashing your drive can be covered up, but it's really a huge pain in the ass. I wouldn't let some random guy do it. If I couldn't do it on my own, I wouldn't have it done because if done improperly, it runs a big risk of getting you console banned.
It all has to do with the dashboard updates and the firmware of your console and disc drive.
There are several things that can flag your console for ban. Something as simple as starting up a console without the disc drive attached can get your console banned if you are hooked up to live. That's why I never hook up the Ethernet to any console I work on. So yes, someone who doesn't know what they're doing can inadvertently get your console banned. I'm not saying that's the case with the shop by you, but the possibility is there.
