It was good but the American version did a much better job of sticking with the book. Normally it's the other way around but all 3 Swedish films changed shit around from the books.
I didn't read the series so I didn't realize that the Swedish films hadn't followed the books. I did hear that the newer version wasn't very good, though.
Well I respectfully disagree with whoever you heard that from. I thoroughly enjoyed the American version and would definitely recommend you read the books and watch all the films, Swedish and American. I read each book and then immediately watched each film while the book was still fresh in my mind.

It's a highly praised book in the same sense that Twilight is a highly praised book. Teen novels are taking over the world...

Have you even tried to read the book?
You probably just heard that the Hunger Games was the next Twilight and said fuck that! Right? Cuz that's exactly what I did .
But then with all the hype.... I just had to read what the book was about. So I did, and it sounded pretty good.
From Barnes n Nobles: In the ruins of a place once known as North America lies the nation of Panem, a shining Capitol surrounded by twelve outlying districts. The Capitol is harsh and cruel and keeps the districts in line by forcing them all to send one boy and one girl between the ages of twelve and eighteen to participate in the annual Hunger Games, a fight to the death on live TV. Sixteen-year-old Katniss Everdeen, who lives alone with her mother and younger sister, regards it as a death sentence when she is forced to represent her district in the Games. But Katniss has been close to dead before-and survival
So I bought that bitch off Amazon for like 8 bucks. Im like half-way through the book now and it doesn't seem to be that much of a love story... its just killing shit. But I can possibly see that changing with the movies and all. I still have this book book plus two others... and as soon as it turns into a love fest... im done.

I thought The Hunger Games was some educational book. The 8th grade English class read it for an assignment and some kind of classroom activities. I had no idea it had entertainment value. Is it a modern day Lord of the Flies?
I remember when Anne Frank was required reading.

I thought it was about Asians eating hotdogs as quick as possible.

I finally got to see the American version and I have to say I felt it was better in every respect except I like Noomi Rapace as Lizbeth better than Rooney Mara who plays her in the American one. But the pacing was better, the storytelling was better, and Craig Daniels did a slightly better job as the novelist/investigator.
In regards to The Hunger Games, I read the book a few days ago and enjoyed it a lot. It is definitely a modern, more-brutal version of Lord of the Flies, although it is even closer to being a rip off of a Japanese novel/movie called Battle Royale.
Either way, it is a pretty good story but I feel like the romance aspect, which was pretty minor in the actual story, will probably be played up a lot in the movie to make it closer to Twilight.
The only similarity I could see in the book of Hunger Games versus Twilight is that the main girl has 2 male companions through different parts of the adventures and by the end of the first book it becomes pretty apparent that she may have to sort out her feelings and "choose" one over the other.
Don't let people's "oh it's just Twilight again" responses keep you from reading or watching it if you like light/simple adventure stories.

Playing these Japanese text games is very interesting considering I can now only make out like 3 words in the games.
I believe I was just stepped on by a giant demon like thing and then I dissolved when it rained....man I wish I knew the backstory behind that

Agreed and I'll go even further in saying I felt everyone except for Lisbeth in the American version was a helluva lot better than their Swedish counterparts. Especially Robin Right as Erika Burger. I thought the Swedish actress they cast looked waaay to old. Erika is only supposed to be in her early to mid 40's and that Swedish chick looks like she's pushing 60. Not to mention the fact that they ruin her character altogether in the 3rd film by Spoiler: Click here to toggle spoilernot showing her leave Millenium to take that head editor job at the newspaper and how they have her go against Mikael by trying to pull the plug on the big issue. In the novel, she supports him through everything.
On a related note Meta - Did you see that Noomi Rapace is in Prometheus?
