But Tom Brady and Jordan AREN'T professional golfers, do you understand that, Snapple?
I'm standing by my argument that golfers have to have more skill to play than most professionals in other sports. To say that an obese linebacker has more "natural talent" and "athletic ability" is just plain stupid. They get winded from eating.
Natural talent and athletic ability doesn't define how much skill it takes to play a sport. The most athletic person in the world defined by the Olympics is whoever gets the gold in the Decathalon. He's not the best at any event, but put him up against all the world record holders for each event and he'd still come out on top.
But according to you guys, if he can't play football well, he's got no natural talent or athletic ability. 60 year olds can play golf, you know why? Because it's a game of skill, not mindlessly holding a ball and running in one direction. Put a 60 year old in a football game or baseball game, where's all his athletic ability and natural talent now? He may still have it, but it won't do much for him.
This is my last post on the topic.
LOL just no. I bet Jordan and Brady play with less of a handicap when golfing then you do though!
I never said football or basketball means your athletic, and if you don't play them you aren't as athletic stop putting words in my mouth and twisting what I said. Golf is a 90% mental sport, you could be 300 pounds and 65 and be one of the best golfers in the world. You see tons of older people play golf because it's not as physically demanding and they have more leisure time to practice and hone their skills.
In football those OL and DL players are in better shape then you, they can run faster longer, lift more, and are better all around athlete's then you could ever dream of becoming. just think about that for a second. I doubt you can run a 40 yard dash under 5 seconds and that's being EXTREMELY generous, you're probably closer to a 5.5-6. These guys are doing it in 4.8 seconds.
You're right natural talent and athletic ability aren't everything, but they are difference makers in professional sports. You can see players who have raw talent that under develop and never live up to the hype, when there's players that didn't have high expectations (Tom Brady) who become GOAT at their position and the face of a franchise. Athleticism is still required for sports, and that's why there's such rigid competition in the Olympics and sports leagues, skill isn't always the determining factor.
Golf is also a singular sport, there is no team just what you can do and that's great you know when you're the best and when you have an off day. But then you see people like Barry Sanders who had an AWFUL team and still was able to carry them into the playoffs, in a sport that is team based. There are a lot less intangibles and other things to worry about in golf opposed to other sports. You are not directly versing people who can limit or hinder your ability with their own, you are shooting your best versus their best to see who did better, that's it. That is why team sports take more skill. Not only is your skill a factor, but so is overcoming the opponents strength's and weaknesses to make sure your team wins.
