Today started out busy and on routine as normal.
At about 1PM, I was heading home to get home in time, as my step son had early release day. I passed by the road where his bus lets off, and saw my step son get off of the bus, and I continued home, as I knew i would get there before him. I have done this a million times, no issues.
Today, that changed, and I got home, and waited and waited, first 5min and then 10min, and then WTF is what I thought. So i went outside, and saw the neighbor and asked him if any of the neighborhood kids had passed while getting out of school. He said, no one had passed by at all. So I start to worry, and head towards his bus stop, and no one is at the stop. I see one of the kids that rides his bus, and I asked him, where was Christopher?
The boy looked at me and said, "Christopher was hit by the bus." I was like, "EXCUSE ME!" and he said it again, with a straight face and no change in tone. I freaked the hell out and ran home and got my keys and jumped in the car, and raced to the nearest hospital, and he wasn't there. So I went to another near hospital, while picking up his mother, and finally got a call from the paramedic saying they have in the ambulance.
"IS HE OKAY!?" was my first response. The paramedic said that he was hit by the bus and the bus driver, put him back in the bus and started to drive away, and was finally pulled over by law enforcement 2 blocks down. They picked him up on that street.
He suffered a severe laceration on his left leg, which is about 3inches deep, and is about 5-7 inches in length. He suffered NO head injuries. He is extremely sore and has back pain from landing on his backside after he was hit by the bus.
He has received 24 Stitches, but otherwise is fine and will heal up after some time.
Our local news is stating that he darted in front of the bus, and the bus driver didn't react in time. But then they did report, that she put him on the bus after the incident, so she can finish her stops.
We have to speak to the officer tomorrow morning and will then seek legal consultation.
We are humbled by God, and are very grateful that he is still amongst us. We are very fortunate, as very few children survive hits like this.
My only regret, is I should have stopped, and had him come to my car, when I saw him, and brought him home safely.
Just wanted to let you folks know, as you guys are just as good as family to me.
