Phone help and ideas

So I use US Cellular, and have been impatiently waiting for them to get the Windows 10 phone. I was able to upgrade a little over a year ago and haven't yet specifically to wait for the Win10. I had the Win7 and Win8 through them, both of which they got about 18 months after everyone else had them.

Found out today, after months of them saying soon, that they are indeed NOT getting it. US Cellular is no longer going to support Windows phones.

SO I was in there looking at other phones today. I do not think I care for the Iphone at all..... My son has an Iphone 6 so I have used it a little.

My wife has a Samsung Galaxy 5, and I kinda think it's ok, but I was also looking at the LG G5 while I was there. And of course they now have the Samsung Galaxy 7, and 7 Edge.

my question is if any of you use either the Galaxy 6 or 7, or the LG G4 or G5, and if you can give any pros and.or cons from actual experience with them?

I have never used any of the galaxy phones but i have had friends that went from iphone to them and then changed back to iphone just because they liked it better. I currently have an iphone 6 plus, and i love it. Im giving you a quick answer right now until i can get ahold of my buddy who i know recently just switched and ask him why he did so.

I've had a Galaxy S6 Edge for about a year now and I think it's really good. One of my favorite features on it is the way it uses the angled edge at the side of the screen to display the current time at night. Another favorite feature is that one can set up to five favorite contacts with a specific color indicator for each and the edge part of the screen will show which of your five favorites just called or texted you, even while the phone is laying screen down. (Though why one would want to have their phone laying screen down doesn't make a lot of sense.)

I've used all operating systems. Blackberry, Windows, iOS, and Droid. In my preference, I love android a lot more. You can do so much with it especially if you root it. When you root, you have so many options open to you to make your phone operate even better. With the iPhone you are just way to restricted in what you can do with it. When I go with Android, I pick up Samsung. I've only had one issue in almost the decade I've been using Samsung. It's a good smart phone and is built very well.

Thanks for the info so far everyone. I'm gonna play around with my families' phones for a little while longer to get a feel for them. I figure, I've waited over a year extra to upgrade already, a few more days won't hurt.

All I have even had was a Blackberry for my first ever smart phone, and then straight into Windows phones from there.

I prefer Android over iPhone and Windows phones personally.

I've never gotten along with Apple products.

I have a Samsung Galaxy S7 and love it. An iPhone is too restrictive since you need to have an apple account to do anything and you can only sync one device. Plus never been a fan of apple products either.
Question can you get a windows phone and play Xbox games without having phone service on said windows phone?

I have a windows phone with no service for xbox games. just keep it on wifi.

Apples Products are "Ok" if you jailbreak them, They're reliable sure and don't need much upkeep but with that comes a lot of restriction and little customization. Didn't really enjoy my time with one, granted, I haven't owned one since the iPhone 3G but I worked at a cell phone store and spent a lot of time with the iPhones (ugh).

With an Android, my preference, you get a lot more openness and can really change what ever you want with it as far as rooting and even Installing Custom Roms/Kernels to extend battery while sacrificing little to no power. With that comes the danger of possibly bricking your product but with 3 OS (Android/Recovery/Bootloader) it's pretty hard to brick them all unless done intentionally even with attempting to heavily modify it. Currently rocking the Note 5 and love it.

Windows 10 phones are poop, they do basic feature like calls and text and what not with very little to show app as Developers avoid the product since there's little money to be made with such a small user base. Unless you're a masochist or just want Xbox Achievements I recommend steering clear from Windows Phones, More trouble than they're worth.

Thanks for all the input everyone. In the end I just couldn't get into the iPhone. I went with the Galaxy S7 Edge. Just got it today. Now I'm trying to get used to it....
