JoyStiq Reports:

Details about Project Natal's technical capabilities leaked out alongside the holiday 2010 release window at Microsoft's CES press conference. The most revealing of these specs is that the hardware will only siphon 10 to 15 percent of the 360's CPU power, according to a statement from Natal lead developer Alex Kipman. "Natal has to work on the existing hardware without taking too much hardware processing away from the games developers," Kipman added. However, according to a report obtained by GamesIndustry, the processing power could have been further reduced. The original build for Natal included a chip that processed the "bone system," assumed responsible for creating a skeleton of the player in front of the device's glossy eye. However, in an attempt to lower costs, the chip was removed from the device's final build, putting that processing onus on the software that will utilize Natal. In other words, it's extremely unlikely that any software will be able to have Natal support patched into it -- a fact that Digital Foundry's Richard Leadbetter says could help "serve to focus developers on Natal-specific concepts as opposed to revisiting old classics."

lol

Sorry to take this thread off topic, but I honestly don't won't natal.I mean the last thing I wanna do after coming home from work is hop around like a dumass.I mean if I wanted to go work out I wouldn't buy a xbox I would go to my gym or do something like go surfing, etc.I see this as a failed attempted by Microsoft to get "casual" gamers to buy a 360.IMO

Im gonna be getting it on day of release hopefully. I like the whole "Wii" idea, but being able to use your body instead of a controller is pretty sick in my opinion. Plus their is a rumor that Rock Band 3 is supposed to be Natal infused. Thats enough for me to buy it.

Wouldn't that suck if you got Natal going properly and then RROD's happened right afterwords?

I was thinking the same thing.

Personally I have no interest in the whole Natal thing. Call me old fashioned but I prefer my games to have a controller.

That sounds great on the outside, but when you stop to think about it, its gonna be glitchy. I mean, the only thing i see to be Natal-capable would be the drums. I don't know about you guys but I play RB/GH on expert usually >98% accuracy, and it would really piss me off to be riding a 300-500 note streak and then lose it because Natal didn't pick up my movement correctly.

These are of course all just my opinions and I'm not trying to press them upon anyone, but motion sensors and such are best fit for the Wii, not the 360 where the controls tend to be a bit more complex.
