Nope. Dick Grayson became Nightwing after being Robin in the comics for years. Jason Todd became Robin after Grayson, was killed by Joker in Batman: A Death in the Family, then was brought back to life and became The Red Hood.

I haven't read DC in a long time, but I thought the Red Hood was the Joker? I thought Jason Todd came back as Hush.......

I assume I am very wrong...

The man that became Joker was disguised as the Red Hood; while fighting Batman, he fell into a vat of chemicals and emerged as the Joker.

It was thought that a resurrected Jason Todd was Hush, but it turned out to be a ruse by Clayface under direction from Riddler and Hush. Jason was resurrected later and became the Red Hood.

Odd how this has now become a discussion about DC characters.

I think the Avengers franchise is going downhill after the Downey and Evan's departures. There is no possible way they can do the Civil War in one film and since Captain America/Iron Man are the centerpieces of that arc and both of them are leaving soon it's not looking great. Plus not having half the roster to take part in the Civil War sucks too. Take away the X-Men for example and you take away the heart of the plot. Furthermore nobody I know is clamoring for Don Cheadle as Iron Man or Sebastian Stan as Cap. Hell 9/10 people don't even know who Sebastian Stan is (He's Winter Soldier FYI). I think Sebastian was great but he's a B or C list celebrity right now. So who does that leave for star power in the Avengers? The Hulk's Mark Ruffalo aka bargain bin replacement actor. Or maybe Hemsworth carries the torch? I don't think he has the acting chops for that. He can't even portray a hetero male that want's to bang Natalie Portman. They had some of the driest most awkward chemistry of any on screen couple ever.

Anyway one would assume all this is leading up to facing Thanos which is insane as he would mop the floor with Avengers in 2 minutes. So they still need to introduce a new Silver Surfer and Adam Warlock to have a chance. Which would take another Guardians Film at least to do so.

marvel movies don't need A list celebrities to sell them anymore, just look at guardians of the galaxy.

Marvel has enough name power and marketing to make all it's movies successes without it, and make stars out of those actors like star wars movies have done in the past.

I didn't say anything about making money. I'm just saying the films won't be anywhere near as good.

Also since when is Zoe Saldana not A-List? She's only in Avatar AND Star Trek. They even slapped Vin Diesel and Bradley Coopers name to it when they could have easily found cheap as shit voice actors to do a good job. Chris Pratt was the only real B lister to shine and he already had landed the Jurassic Park 4 job before this one so his stock was sky rocketing.

I don't doubt Marvel can sell tickets but that a good movie does not make. Remember Twilight's ticket sales and nobody knew any of their names before that came out. But downhill to me means quality.

Also those Star Wars prequels sucked balls. The main character of those things did like one shitty movie and disappeared. (Jumper? lol). Ultimately even out of the originals only Harrison Ford went on to be a movie superstar. The rest coasted on that one role for the rest of their careers.

are you seriously going to sit there and say iron man didn't completely revitalize RDJ career, or that chris Evans or chris helmworth were a list celebrities beforehand?

or that Ian mcgregor, Natalie Portman, and kiera knightly were a list celebrities prior to the Star Wars prequel movies? (which weren't garbage but whatever)

is that really the argument you want to make?

First off what are you babbling on about? Of course it revitalized RDJ's career. I never said it didn't. Even if his star was fading he was still a great actor with a star studded supporting cast. Terrance Howard was coming off a Oscar nomination in Hustle & Flow. Gwyneth and Jeff Bridges were already huge stars. Iron Man was tailor made for RDJ in every possible way. Are you comparing RDJ's acting ability to Mark Ruffalo or Jeremy Renner? There was no way that movie was going to fail.

Chris Evans was well known before Captain America for sure. He already played the Human Torch and had several starring vehicle films (Like Push) before he got the role. Chris Hemsworth was a unknown but he is a terrible actor anyway. He was there to look pretty and let the big guns like Natalie Portman and Anthony Hopkins do the heavy lifting. Ironically Tom Hiddleston playing the villain is the real find out of those movies from a acting standpoint. I'd wager he is more popular as well. In any event replacing established characters with filler actors is not really appealing in movie franchises.

Honestly Ian McGregor is not a huge star outside of certain circles yet. Most people have no idea who he is if you mention his name. He followed up his Star Wars success with the big budget flop "The Island" and has trouble carrying a movie himself. Portman didn't get super famous until a few starring roles later. Her scenes gave her little to work with and 90% were with the weakest actor in the franchise. Kiera Knightely was a glorified stand in who didn't get famous until Pirates. Not sure why you even mentioned her.

My argument that replacing RDJ and Chris Evans within the universe they built is a recipe for inferior product. Nobody can fill their shoes especially if you end it with a 1 movie Civil War arc. Their only logical replacements are Don Cheadle and Sebastian Stan who you then pair with Marc Ruffalo and Jeremy Renner. Not exactly a dream team...

Edit: Also wtf is up with Ultron being Iron Man's creation and not Hank Pym. 5 minutes of opening could have made that right but instead they erase perhaps the best Villian origin and introducing a new character just to make him hate Iron Man specifically more then the rest of the Avengers. :growl:

block of text

that's some fantastic revisionist history you have there.

Just because RDJ had acting ability beforehand doesn't mean that his was pretty much spoiled goods before iron man 1 came out, dude was drunk and high all the time and marvel movies completely changed his career around, as well as chris evans not being an A list celebrity until he became captain america, no one thought he could act from his previous works (and looking at fantastic 4 can you blame them?)

also lmao at natalie portman not becoming a star from those movies, do you even know what you're talking about? It changed her from a child actress to a full blown movie star, but whatever. that's not even to mention kiera knightly becoming famous off being natalie portman lookalike in those movies.

Either way these style of movies can make or completely reinvent an actors career, jeremy renner is the new agent borune and getting tons of movie deals because he was hawkeye and hes now a recognizable face due to the exposure and following Disney movies get, which is where Marvel and Star wars now fall under.

point is, the movies will continue to do well with or without big name actors and actresses, because the characters they portray are bigger names then the actors and actresses themselves for the most part, and if they aren't the the Marvel logo and marketing surely is.

are you seriously going to sit there and say iron man didn't completely revitalize RDJ career, or that chris Evans or chris helmworth were a list celebrities beforehand?

or that Ian mcgregor, Natalie Portman, and kiera knightly were a list celebrities prior to the Star Wars prequel movies? (which weren't garbage but whatever)

is that really the argument you want to make?

Being a huge Star Wars fan even I have to say that the prequels were garbage.

Episode 1: Jar Jar Binks. Without him that would have been a much much better movie. Way too tailored for kids.

Episode 2: Hayden Christensen, the entire movie being CGI, Hayden Christensen, everyone else's acting, Boba Fett is a clone. Oh and Hayden Christensen. The first reason was so important that it had to be said more than once.

Also the fact (small but still annoying) that they made it that Jedi's only have blue or green lightsabers, Sith have red. Except for Mace Windu because he's suppose to be a Saber Master. Originally Sith like Exar Kun had a double blue saber, Plo Koon had yellow, Adi Gallia had red.

Episode 3: Hayden Christensen. Terrible actor, but his acting was better once he was turning Sith. Also the fact that Sidious, even powerful as he was, kills 3 Jedi Masters within seconds (Kit Fisto, Saesee Tiin & Agen Kolar). 3rd reason was that Padme dies because of a broken heart. Seriously? How freaking retarded.
