In the first season Locke had a backgammon game when the plane crashed. That episode describes the game of light and dark good and evil. This current episode The black stone is for evil/dark the devil. (never gave his name yet) The white stone is for good/light god (described as Jacob a name from the bible) In one of the seasons Saywer was confronted by his father on the island and at the time his father hinted that the island was "Hell". I have yet to figure out if the Island is heaven/or hell or something in between but I strongly believe that everyone on the island is dead and they are god/devils pawn is this real life game of backgammon.

alright, STD.... eat it, LOL!
"real life backgammon" seems a tad crazy at this point.
when we first saw john explaining the game to walt he was still john. not the man in black. the alternate universe shit is starting to make sense now, but i'm still having a hard time weaving some of the stories together.
as we just saw, john is still crippled, and "amazingly" enough, from a plane wreck. he basically killed his father in this reality, which is the exact opposite of what happened in the original reality.
on the island, john had james do his dirty work.
it's all weaving together, and i really hope they fill in the gaps before it ends.
oh and also.... i think at this point we should all know that the man in black cannot kill the candidates. they have to kill themselves'. these "candidates" are not protectors of the island. they are protecting the outside world from the man in black.
