Ok being a Big Big Jrpg fan here's what I think is worth it:
FF7: MUST PLAY in any RPG fan book
Chronotrigger: I don't think u will find this very very very very rare game but if u do u will love it.
On the 360 I will list all the JRPG worth playing in my eye:
-The Last Remnant
-Lost Odyssey
-Infinite Undiscovery
-Magna Carta 2
-Star Ocean 4: The Last Hope
-Phantasy Star Universe
-Final Fantasy 13 (of course)

anyway... get a SNES emulator for:
chrono trigger
super mario RPG
secret of evermore
secret of mana
FF mystic quest
FF3
breath of fire
breath of fire 2
shadowrun
zelda: link to the past
(i've never played the dragon quest games but i've heard they're amazing)
and i would suggest a PS1 over the PS2 for:
final fantasy 7
final fantasy tactics
breath of fire 3
suikoden
alundra
legend of mana
tales of destiny
wild arms
lunar: silver star story
saga frontier
parasite eve
and last but not least, beyond the beyond, only because it was the first PS1 RPG lol.
(some of these aren't actually japanese rpgs but they're all epic and worth playing.)

you might have to play the prior Star Oceans to understand the story of Star Ocean 3 on PS2....
