Help w/ HD setup
10/12/10 9:38 pm | #1
Ok, I've never bothered to attempt to setup HD, mainly cuz I just got an HDtv. Anyway, do I just buy an HD cable? I've been told to replace my AV cable. If it'll help I can upload pictures, as I suck at various terms relating to TVs and what not.
Thanks.
Thanks.

For the best picture you need an HDMI cable, don't buy it at the store they will rape you, alot of sites offer them very cheap.

Just flip the switch on your Video cable from TV > HD and hook it up normally (with the Red Green Blue instead of Yellow Red White, you will however need to use the red and white for sound in the neighboring input).
Done.
Done.

I've tried this, but didn't notice much of a difference (if any). Do I plug them into Component or HD? Ive always used Component.

Whichever one makes the picture look the best.
Also don't forget to change your resolution on your dashboard. Otherwise it'll always look the same in 480p.

Sometimes you can luck out and find one used at Gamestop, I picked mine up used for $15, 6ft cable.
But yeah, once you plug in the HDMI cable then you would no longer use the Red, white, yellow cables.
I believe AJ is talking about the Xbox 360 Component HD AV Cable, which has Red, white Audio Video cables, along with the red, green, blue component cables. When you use the red, green, blue component cables then on the end that plugs into your 360 there should be a switch that you would just slide over to HD.
But, everything is color coded, just match up the colors and HDMI cables have a slot just for themselves.
But like AJ said, don't forget to change the resolution on your 360 as well, otherwise you will not see a difference at all

And if you aren't sure your hdtv can do 1080p, then don't try that.
Do 720p first and then 1080i, and see which you prefer.
If you sit close or it's very big, I'd say do 1080i, and if it's smaller then do 720p.
The vast majority of games are made to run in 720p anyway, the 1080 is usually artificial upscaling and can even degrade performance depending on what kind of image processing your tv does, if any.
