Oh wow ... you dont NEED to ... i know people who went without upgrading ... but if your going to upgrade , to give yourself more of an edge
Upgrade Lightings Blazefire Saber , Fangs Taming Pole and Hopes Nirturia (something like that)

wait, so you're telling me to upgrade Lightning's starter weapon, Fang's weapon that has "stagger lock" which "prevents staggering of enemies", and Hope's Ninurta which has no passive abilities?...

Yes. Lightning should have a balanced weapon since she is a balanced character, hence upgrade the best balanced weapon for her (her starting weapon.
For Fang, she doesn't need to stagger anything since she is rarely ever used as a Ravager. Also, her Stagger Lock weapon has a huge strength boost (950+ or something like that) fully upgraded, so it's worth it.
Hope doesn't need any enhancements since he is mainly a Rav/Med person and the weapons that boost those roles have horrible stats. Nirturia has the highest magic stat, and since Hope has the highest base magic stat, it only makes sense. I think that sums it up, feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.
:EDIT: Ninturia doesn't have the best magic stat, Hawkeye does. You should use Hawkeye instead.

@Melissa Evol
Yes, you can come back after the game is finished, and it is recommended you do. I only did Missions 1 & 2 before I went onto the next chapter and am doing them all now after I beat the game.

oh i see.... but wouldn't the Hawkeye be better suited for Hope since it has the highest ending magic stat? he never attacks anyways so strength wouldn't mean much, right?
