Actually Snap, they made a lot of improvements to DOA5's engine besides just the visuals. It is a bit more technical now, and the triangle system of strikes, throws and counters has been improved, especially the timing window.
You can go in to the options and turn off hit effects and the action camera, and disable the levels that have all the extra stuff, and it makes DOA feel like Virtua Fighter, it's that much more precise now.
BigP, you said Ultimate is just $40. Is this for a new copy?? I might have to get it after all.

Originally I wasn't all that interested, but it looks like a fresh set of achievements. Put in about 25hrs into the original one. Helena / Christie combo. I'll get it eventually, but I have a feeling it will go down to $20 around November when the new consoles hit.

Always up to get my butt kicked. Seriously, I keep getting throw down requests from Ranked people that are D and up, wtf. The one time I got in a lobby with a couple other F's I actually did ok.
Anyway, some tips:
For the power launch Achievement, you need to be below 50% health before you do it.
Same thing for the tag power blow, except this one you need both of your characters to be below 50%--do your power blow like regular, but right when the game slows down and the colour fades, this is when you hit H+P+K which is the RB by default.
Oh, also, Helena's "ultimate sexy" costume is NICE. I had to fork over the $2 since she's my favourite character:
You get the teeny tiny swimsuits for Tina, Christie and Lisa by either winning Survival on the highest difficulty or just by planking Ranked matches (don't have to win)--you get them at 50, 100 and 200 I believe.
+edit+ oh, and once you've seen 10 different losing poses and gotten that Achievement, you also get a new option for breast physics in the settings menu--OMG.
It is freaking hilarious. DOA5 was already over the top, it had the same bounciness as 4 but it added independent breast physics. If you turn on OMG in Ultimate, you will seriously have some scenes where one of a girl's breasts is still and the other one is flying up and down like it's trying to escape.
For those that don't like DOA's breast physics, you can also tone them down to "natural" or turn them off altogether in Ultimate. I thought that was neat. ...I keep mine on OMG, though.
+edit2+ ok I found where to do the special danger zones for the Achievements:
On Show (circus), it needs to be in the middle arena, and you actually need to aim for the clown mouth with your Power Blow.
On Hot Zone (military/war) it needs to be in the starting area, you don't have to aim. But if you or the opponent gets knocked over the barrier, it won't work.
On Tokyo Sky, you have to do it in the 2nd round or whenever the statue shows up in the background. I don't think you need to aim but try to have the opponent's back to the statue just in case.
For the cliffhanger Achievements, the best place to try seems like the top part of the Scramble level. Use a strong move to knock the opponent in to the engine, then a short while later get them over to the edge where the girders fell off.
+edit3+ some of the female characters have alternate options like hairstyles. you can get them by holding down RB+X when you pick the costume.
For Helena, it gives her long flowing hair with no ribbon. For Kasumi, it gives her a braid. For Leifang, it gives her long unbraided pig tails. For Lisa/Mariposa it removes her mask. Haven't figured out what the rest are/do. Also I know there used to be button combos to change some characters' panty colour and whether they were wearing glasses or not.
