I asked if beta codes were sent out and the guy in charge game this response.
"It almost doesn't matter, as wave one will be very small. When you get one, you get one. It's not a race, you know? I'm glad everybody's eager, but there's no prize for getting in first"

We're really not worried about getting it first are we? We just would like to know approx. when we can expect to be part if we're chosen.

def seems like they are rolling it out over a few weeks as long as everything is going well:
About 2 million people have signed up for the beta, according to Activision, but the number of invites going out in the first wave of testing is very small, with more invites going out gradually over the span of a few weeks. To those who don't get into the beta right away, Activision Social Media Manager Dan Amrich advises patience.
"Remember, this is a live beta with an evolving system — it’s like entering the Indy 500 while the car is still being built. As long as the system can remain stable, more people will be invited as frequently as possible — as many and as often as the system can accomodate," he says on his blog, One of Swords.
Amrich also says that although the final version of Elite will be localized in various native languages around the world, the beta is in English only.

I just got my invite as well...Registered and found out this is really just a waste of time, all the stats are the same as in the ingame one's with a few nice charts added that you could easily make yourself.
Competetions are nice but we all know a handfull of players are going to dominate them.
