Aliens: Colonial Marines
01/03/13 1:31 pm | #1
The last thread by chaind insanity was archived, so I figured I would make another one. I'm a HUGE fan of the movies so I can't wait for this to come out, the more I look at the games in Feb, March, April, the more money I'm gonna spend. The game is FINALLY coming out, and it looks pretty good. thoughts?

Definitely looking forward to this. I love chaotic cooperative games! If they manage to capture that whole feel from Aliens -- the cocky space marines come in expecting an easy win and are destroyed almost immediately -- it will be a better, crazier "horde mode."

apparently the coop members are MORE squad members added, meaning if you play single player those same people will be there in coop, but with added people (i guess like how halo added more spartans)

I can understand what Circus was saying in the other thread--about how the previews/trailers make it look like a kind of bland L4D2 ripoff with the torrid development history of Duke Nukem Forever.
At the same time, I am really excited to have a 4 player co-op shooty game to look forward to, and I am hoping it offers some fun experiences playing as the xenomorphs.
If it turns out to be a short campaign snoozefest with tepid online deathmatch mp then oh well, I'm going to rent it first anyway.

It does look awesome. I'm probably gonna borrow the game from work to play the multiplayer with people.

good to hear, there's 4 player coop so I'm looking for a few people to play with.

So the game is finally out! IGN gave it a 9/10 but so far they seem to be one of the only sources to rate it so high.
I've been reading over message boards and most folks seem to agree that the graphics are decidedly last-gen, the multiplayer is only fun for a short time, and the gameplay becomes repetitive too fast.
High points praised are the lighting & shadows, and the developers seem to have actually gotten the dark, tense atmosphere correct for some of the campaign.
What I found very strange is that, after release, Randy Pitchford of Gearbox admitted that a lot of the game's development was outsourced. This troubles me a bit because one of the studios that worked on it was TimeGate, which is a small studio right here in Houston, previously only known for their mediocre shooters Section 8 and Section 8 Prejudice.
Anyway, I am a big fan of the movies, especially the second one, so I am going to give this game a solid try. While I scoot over to Redbox, anyone have any comments on the game yet?
Oh, also, "somebody wake up Hicks."
