The hardware failure rate really is retarded.
At the same time I feel like, after years of screwing up, they deal with it pretty well now.
I had 2 consoles fail, one RRoD and the other E74. Aside from waiting for the shipping label to arrive, it was exactly 7 days from when I put the first console in a box and dropped it off at the UPS store to when it arrived at my door. The second console took 6 days from ship to holding it again.
Throwing the free month of Live at people... it seems like such a weak consolation but then again if this wasn't the number one failing console out there I wouldn't get a free 3 year warranty on it and I'd probably have to shell out $35-60. Really, I was hoping they would send me a crappy first party title with each console return but I'm just glad I didn't have to pay anything.
I have even heard that they are back to sending out "coffin" boxes now. When I was submitting the repair request on my second console, it had returned as an option (I went with the shipping label anyway since I had already done it that way, knew it was fast and reliable, and still had the box and packing stuff from the first time).
Overall I really love my 360's and I even love how well they handle repairs now, I just hate that they fail so much in the first place even if you baby them.
