hmm i like ur idea evol but i dont think u should have to have it completed but maybe a certain percent completed. just bc of the fact that when a new game comes out there wouldnt be a guide for it FOREVER! idk how u would get past that point but just my 2 cents. maybe have multiple ppl make a guide together so they can get it a guide up faster? more ppl means more ways to earn the achievements so that way u can get the easiest way possible.

This is a good idea but I agree, no awards

That's fine! If a few people would like to sign up as a team and tackle the more difficult ones, it could only make it better. Also in the end, input from everyone can be edited into the guide as better ways to achieve are found.
My point is that there MUST be some semblance of order, and not a free for all, as there are hundreds of preexisting games that people are going to rush to do, just to be the man. I used Avatar as a joke, but if there is a game that tons of people have completed, like that or the 2k6 games, etc. we don't need 25 guides by 25 people.
As far as people having a game completed, if you don't have an achievement yourself, then you can't tell anyone the easiest way to get it. I don't have Mile high club. I can't do it. I have seen videos, but that doesn't mean I can tell you the best way to get it. Therefore I will not sign up to write a COD4 guide. It may take forever to get a guide up, but what's the point of a guide that doesn't tell you anything?

I totally agree with this, and NO REWARDS for writing guides.

I can say without a doubt that Mile High Club is more luck than skill. Yes, skill is a big part of it, but after all the time I had to put into it, and the 7 different video's I watched before finding one that worked, it is more luck. I would say 60% luck, 40% skill.
I think making a guide would be sweet, but I wouldn't really know how to go about it. I don't know for sure the no-no's about using other sites content. By that, I DO NOT mean stealing it as my own, but I used a video walkthrough to help out with my 1k on COD4. Would it be wrong to put in all my tips and add to use so and so's walkthrough with a link, for extra help?

Definitely agree on that one. I would only want quality guides being written, not people throwing crap together so they think they can get a little award.

I have to agree with this idea, of no awards for the sake of quality.
But on the flip side
If an award was made for making so and so many Approved guides, or maybe make a guide with 100 more positive reviews then negative ones, then that could inspire greatness.
But just for submitting a guide, that would lead to spam, yes.
I still think that if there was an award for writing a guide with a large amount of positive reviews would be ok. But i do understand where all the negativity about awards is coming from

As long as you make sure to give credit to the original author I do not see the problem in including a few helpful outside sources but the majority of the guide should be completely your own.

Oh yeah, I agree as well, I just know that I would probably want to show his site in the guide IF I did it as a way for more help if it is needed by the individual.
I could even possibly help someone with the multiplayer part of COD 3 if someone wanted to do that one. Having gone through the beast of boosting required for General, I think I could give advice in that area as well.

The problem is it's illegal. You can't take a book off the best-sellers list, copy it verbatim, put a reference at the end and sell it for half the price.

That's not what we're saying here. What I'm saying, is if I make my own guide, is it considered illegal if I post a link, to accommidate that guide, that will take the user to a site with a video walkthrough that will also help them out?

If the video is on a site like YouTube, I'm sure it would be fine. However if the site is uploaded specifically to another site and is only supposed to be used for that site (like on x360a) I'm sure that would not work.

Sorry if I put that the wrong way. I am not talking about taking an entire guide and copy and pasting onto our site. I meant if there is a helpful hint which someone else discovered that can really make a game easier, I do not see anything wrong with putting it in your guide if you have the sources approval and give credit.

I'm sorry, I misunderstood. As long as we're not embedding privately-hosted videos outside the context of their webpages, there's no problem.
