I was playing Halo 3 like ever other person that owns a XBOX 360 now a days, and I came across a Achievement name the Lee R. Nelson Memorial. Now i don't know if anybody else was wondering who this man was i found this information on Wikipedia explaining it all.
The second paragraph really goes into detail with why he got this honor.

Yea- I think it's really cool they named the achievement in this way. It is another way to honor him for a selfless sacrifice. People who never knew, will now know him and what he did.

a marine in iraq earlier this year or last year did that as well.. i hadnt seen that achievement yet
I remember hearing about that. He jumped on a grenade that was thrown into a vehicle. He could've gotten out, and the protocol for that situation was to get himself out. The other marines wouldn't have made it but he jumped on it and saved all their lives.
That kind of bravery and sacrifice gives me the willies. It's very cool of Bungie to name the achievement off Lee Nelson.

Let's see...where have I seen that imagery before? Was it Brothers In Arms where the guy launched himself on the grenade? I think there was also a scene in Band of Brothers. There's another scene from something i can't remember, but I can see it in my head. I might even be thinking of the scene from the above things I mentioned. The guy looks left and right then sees the grenade shouts "GRENADE!" then launches himself ontop of the grenade. Was that We Were Soldiers? I don't remember. Too tired. But anyways whether private or leader, if I thought for one second I could save lives by sacrificing myself by putting myself over a grenade, then I would.

true but imagine thinking...."what about my wife and little William and/or Becky waiting for Daddy to come home. That why I don't think there was too much fore thought just "i need to do this" If there were too much thought he might have waited too long

I'd like to think I would too, but I don't think you can really know for sure unless you're put in the situation. Our animal instincts are to protect our body. It takes a lot of courage and mental strength to overcome that for what you know is really right.
