i only play games i know i like.. but i tried these and hated them:

Mass Effect was an RPG because of all the choices you had to make and the fact that you could explore the world around you while doing different sidequests. If that doesn't sound like Oblivion or Final Fantasy, I don't know what does.

starters Mass Effect was RPG all the way, nothing about it says otherwise
second, I have to say that almost any movie based game (spiderman, superman, ironman) is pretty much a sure thing when it comes to a high suck level, there are very few that are good and I can only think of one right now

i have to agree with those two....I was thinking of checking out Turning Point one time but than I saw the reveiw rating that Game Informer magazine gave it and I was blown away as to how low it was, lol.

I would consider this more of an Action RPG
Yeah you go around shooting people
Yeah you can level yourself up
But I think what qualifies this as an RPG is that there are so many things you can do or not do, and there are different ways you can go about doing them, either as a Paragon or as a Renegade.
So I will agree with you as to this is not a full out RPG...but it has the elements of an RPG ya know?

We live in a time where you cant simply classify games into a few categories anymore. While ME was an RPG it wasnt a straight RPG. If anything its an action RPG.
Hour of victory was garbage, I can barely stand it to get the achievements.

It's not a time for genre discrimination! It's a time when RPGs and Action RPGS can live in peace, and raise their children for the STORIES, not just to fall into one category or another!
Right well regardless if they can make it work then why not. Id love to see different types of games out there. Especially if it means blurring the lines between genres.

Well an RPG is a pretty tough genre to classify in itself!
All an RPG is, is a game in which you assume the role of a character in a fantasy setting making decisions based on what said character would do in a given situation. Based on the pen and paper role playing games that it was derived from, RPGs were just "sandbox" board games.
No ME and oblivion are not traditional video game RPGs, but they are actually closer to the D and D style RPGs than the traditional VGRPGs ever even thought about being.

I know what you mean about too many choices, but I don't feel that is a problem if the story is immersive enough! I'm sure that if the story was such that you actually felt that you "were the character" (which ME obviously didn't do for you) then the choices would have been less of a drawback!
Yes I would love to have an oldschool VGRPG for 360!! Hopefully someone can make that happen! SOON! lol
