Sigh ... console help
03/09/09 1:52 pm | #1
I was playing Rock Band 2 and then wanted to play Fallout 3. Went to dash swapped discs, Fallout 3 never loaded now console doesn't read discs. I don't even get an error message. Just says open tray -- reading disc -- open tray.
Any ideas?

it could be your drive going or it could be dirty but it may only be a dirty or scratched disk. try cleaning it with a microfiber cloth wiping from the center of the disk straight out to the edge, never in a circular motion.

I tried 4 different games. Usually I hear the disc spin in there when I put one in, but I don't even hear anything now.

Have you tried installing the game to your hard drive and playing the game from the hard drive directly?

it doesn't sound good buddy.....sorry, but did you try your xbox in the other position? as in, vertical as opposed to horizontal or vice versa? vertical supposedly scratches disks so i don't recommend it but if it works that way - score! how about trying a regular audio cd to see if it works?

I was explaining it to a friend and he said either the motor blew or there's some laser problem when reading the disc.
Either way sounds like I'm screwed.
What a flawed piece of machinery. Not even sure if I wanna replace it.

i doubt this has anything to do with your problem, but by chance, is it hard getting your copy of fallout in and out of the case? i believe i got a defective case or something when i bought it the first time, but it eventually started cracking the disc a tiny bit in the middle around the hole of the disc. i always knew it was snug in the case, but didn't realize the damage until the game stopped working.
but yeah, that happened to me and my disc wouldn't read.
seems like your other games aren't working though, right? so i doubt that's it lol.

Lol Fallout of allyour games. I know you were pissed.
As for the problem, it seems your going to have to send it in, if the drive is unable to spin the disk you are probably hit. As for wether or not to replace it, I would, though its expensive its something you prolly enjoy enough.
