So I was a bit hesitant on making this thread because I know how sensitive the issue of religion can be...But than I saw the thread Boobs made about it so I said "alright, here I go", lol

I am a Southern Baptist, I believe in our lord jesus christ and how he died for our sins, and I try my best to live my life the way god would want me to, I pray for my sins and I pray for people that go against me or hate me. I'm not one to bash someone for not believing in what I believe because we all have the right to do so. People can believe or not believe.

But this about Scientology I believe to be absurbed. I read an article about it in this months issue of Maxim Magazine and it raised my interest enough to youtube a couple vids. I know you can't believe EVERYTHING you see on youtube...but a lot of these things go together from one video to the next you know?

I made this thread because I am going to post some vids and I would like peoples opinion on this. I apologize if anyone in this community is a Scientologist, here gives you a chance to explain to all of us exactly what is going on. Me myself, I think it is a cult, and I know I am not the only one that feels this way.

Here are some vids...a couple of them are rather lengthy but no in excess of 10 minutes...if you dont watch any of them, please watch the unfunny truth and the one with harrassing a non believer.

The only part I find weird is that many folks these days like making fun of Scientologists when they find out the stuff about Xenu.

Many of these same detractors are themselves Christians which means they don't have qualms with a deity coming down and impregnating a woman so she has a son of a god, the same god who not too long before was leading his 'chosen people' on a genocidal campaign to take land and supplies from neighboring tribes.

Scientologists are criticized for "brainwashing" members by isolating them from other people and raising their children up in sheltered, one-sided environments where they only learn a single, narrow version of "truth".
I can't even tell you how many people I know that were brought to church every Sunday (the paegan day of sun worship, btw), put in to 'vacation Bible school' during summers, or even made to attend private schools where their particular flavor or denomination of Christianity was a required subject.

To me it is no different than 'radical' jihadists doing the work of their patron deity (supposedly the same one of the Judeo-Christian religions) by literally acting on fundamental interpretations of their 'holy literature', raising their children in these environments to keep them from being "corrupted" by people that do not share their beliefs.

I actually do feel 100% like Scientology is absurd, and their tactics of pushing their beliefs on others, judging and acting against those who do not believe, and "brainwashing" members to further their own obfuscated goals is very dangerous. But I don't see how it differs from most other organized religions, except that they are a little more honest about their money-gathering schemes through E-meter readings instead of just calling for 'offerings' and donations in revival tents and altar calls.

Educate yourself as much as you can. There is no knowledge that is not power.

And before you judge Scientologists, Islamic jihadists, or anyone else for being a member of a cult that acts on misinterpretation, know that your "Bible" is a collection of documents approved as 'safe' by Catholic councils. Some books were removed, others were edited.

I'm a Scientist! been studying females for many years and i still don't understand them, they are a strange species........does this classify as a religion? :baffled:

There's been some big fights on here over Religion. Way bigger than that little spat when he was on vaction a few weeks ago, and they almost tore the site apart. So hence Z's warning.

There is nothing wrong with you posting what you think. I think this has started well, just remember it only takes one A-Hole to get things going down the wrong path. If someone jumps on here and try's to start something, I think they should be ignored first and then Banned.

Agreed.

I think the XbA crowd is really cool and able to discuss things, and it can be very difficult to get information despite how common it is these days.

XbA is as good a place as any! Opinions are beautiful expressions, even when they are clouded. It is not too difficult to keep in mind that we are all human and on the same journey together, and let that consideration shape the focus of your expressions.

Yeah you guys are right...I made this thread not really in the form of a flame...thought looking back at how I originally posted it is what came out to look like.
I was talking to Raine and she raised a good example as saying in the terms of the word "cult" i used it in, that christianity in itself could be known as a cult. I think more than anything I am more curious as to this, it's not something I believe in but like I said everyone can believe what they want. I came across this videos on youtube and was surprised by the things I saw in them.

Years ago I worked as a Personnel Manager (Human Resources) for a company that was in someways based on scientology. They were Christians who used the premisis of Ron Hubbard to improve their business. We had the option of participating in "classes" that were based on scientology but to improve our daily lives and our working process.
Why it does get a bad rap and they do strange things I learned a lot. Like Kidd I'm a Southern Babtist but I've become quite the Liberal in the last decade or so.
I remember when I first joined this site their was a new member who state he was a "christian gamer" and I made a comment (positive) and shit got WAY outta hand. Anyways good thread Kidd

To be honest, I think all religions are crazy and total BS. I guess I just like everything to be proven by facts so until God is proven true OR untrue, then I'm undecided. I just don't know, I don't even know what that's called. I don't know anything about Scientology so I ain't one to talk, the only thing I know about it is what was on South Park.

I actually went to a Christian school for a long time and I used to go to church every Sunday and Wednesday with my grandma, who is really religious. Then I started actually reading everything, looking stuff up on the internet, talking to different people and it started to seem more and more fake to me. More like a Harry Potter book actually. I won't even talk to anyone about religion because I always end up being told I'll go to hell and burn in the lake of fire. So I tend to keep everything that isn't "Godly" away from my family, like music for example.

I guess what I'm getting at is that I believe that nobody truly knows about anything. And of all the religions I've been around, Christians are by far the most... umm, pushy and arrogant. My best friend is and he says that Muslims are evil people and that the war is America vs Muslims, not terrorists. Plus he says he hopes Obama gets assassinated because he's muslim and black. I think it might just be the Mississippi in him though. I told him he's a jackass racist/extremist.

I don't think our country are fighting muslims...One of my best friends are muslims and I asked her what was up with all this "kill everyone who isn't a muslim or doesnt want to be a muslim" and she didn't know...She said all of that is bullshit...that some retard of the family must have misread the manuscript, lol.
But I do believe that someone will assasinate Obama if he is elected...just as I thought someone would do the same if Hilary was elected...There is just too much hate in the world.
As far as proof of god, Christanity is a belief based on faith, just as most religions are, if we knew for a fact everything that we have been told, it would kind of defeat the purpose, and even if the religion I chose is the not THE religion, at least I am part of something good IMO
