On Christmas morning my family and I embarked on a trip to Hawaii. It consisted of three separate flights and over fifteen hours in planes or in airports. When we finally arrived at the house we were borrowing, I was exhausted. I was in bed on a mattress laid out on the floor when I heard a rustling in the closet behind me. Thinking it was probably a mouse, I turned on the light and peered into the closet. It was then I noticed the six or seven inch insect at my feet skittering across the floor. This centipede was huge.
I have a phobia for spiders, so you can imagine how much this thing freaked me out. I flew out of that room like Jesse Owens. The next day, we found two of them underneath a suitcase in the room. I\'m pleased to say they\'re no more.
It turns out in Hawaii centipedes are the most dangerous insect. The pain from their bite can vary from a small pinch to the equivalent of a gunshot wound. Ouch. Some of them are also highly poisonous. Needless to say, I\'m freaked. I don\'t plan on moving to Hawaii anytime soon.
