Well, all Xbox 1 games will need a download to play if you haven't played them yet.
The other thing to check is if it needs a download every time, or just the first time you insert the same disk.

No issues. Any time it says it needs an update for Xbox 1 games it is the backwards compatability kicking in. For Xbox 360 games, it is an update from the game publisher/designer.

No, it sounds to me like there might be a problem.
If you're playing a game and download an update, then switch to a new game, and then back to the first game you shouldn't have to download another update unless it was updated since you downloaded the first one. It sounds to me like this is happening every time he puts in any game.

OK, I didn't understand your follow-up. Yes, it is definitely a problem, and it seems it could be related to your memory unit. You didn't change any setting on where your game updates are stored at did you?

something to do with the cache i remember hearing this problem on either the xbox forums or somewhere else but i do remember cache was mentioned as a response to the problem. somehow the update info is getting deleting when playing another game. mine does it sometimes with need for speed carbon.

If it has somthing to do with your cache, then google "Clear xbox 360 cache" or somthing along those lines, there is a certain code you can enter in the dashboard that will clear your 360's cache. Or mabye it's hold the "A" button while it boots. Idk.

How to preform maintenance on the Xbox 360 Hard Drive (or Memory Unit):
I'd recommend that you sign out first.
At the Xbox 360 Dashboard, tab (using Left Stick, the D-pad) over to the "system" blade. Once there, highlight Memory and press the A button. Now highlight Hard Drive (DO NOT SELECT IT) and press the Y button. You should now be in the Device Options area. Now press the following keys in this order: X X LB RB X X. A panel should come up that says "Maintain Storage Devices" as the title with the description that reads:
"This will perform maintenance on your Xbox 360 storage devices. Do you want to continue?"
Highlight "Yes" and press the A button.
Repeat these steps if you wish to do the same on the Xbox 360 Memory Unit. Where it says to highlight Hard Drive, highlight Memory Unit instead.
