Activision and Logitech announced today an agreement for Logitech to develop and market premium Guitar Hero World Tour instruments. All instruments will be fully compatible with the features in GHWT, and will be available for all the platforms the game is coming to (360, PS3, PS2 and Wii.) There is no word on if any of the instruments will be wireless or compatible with ANY Guitar Hero game, or possibly even with Rock Band. I am having someone check on this and hope to have an answer to that question soon.

Update (Z) - I asked John Yan, site Admin at GamingNexus if he could follow up with his Logitech PR rep to answer the questions about compatibility and wireless, and this is the response he received:

Unattributed Quote:

When asked about compatibility with Rock Band 1 or 2 she told me they are just focusing on Guitar Hero World Tour for now but there might be something coming later on down the road to clarify that issue. As you know compatibility can be done both via software and hardware so if Rock Band 2 is able to use Guitar Hero World Tour instruments then the Logitech ones will as well. I also asked if the instruments will use the 360's and PS3's wireless technology or will they go the dongle route as some other third party controllers do but I was told they are in the design phases right now and will divulge that information in the future.

Activision Collaborates With Logitech to Develop Premium Instruments for Guitar Hero(R) World Tour

SANTA MONICA, Calif. and FREMONT, Calif., July 31, 2008 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX News Network/ -- Activision Publishing, Inc. (Nasdaq: ATVID) and Logitech International (SWX: LOGN) (Nasdaq: LOGI) today announced a collaboration to develop and market premium instrument controllers for Guitar Hero(R) World Tour, the latest installment of the world's best-selling music-based video game franchise, which ships this fall for the Xbox 360(TM) video game system from Microsoft, PlayStation(R)2 computer entertainment system, PLAYSTATION(R)3 computer entertainment system and Nintendo Wii(TM).

Logitech plans to offer premium instruments for each of these platforms, the first of which will be available later this year. Logitech's products will be compatible with Guitar Hero World Tour's advanced feature set, allowing players to elevate their Guitar Hero(R) jam sessions to full-fledged rock concerts.

"Logitech is the leading producer of peripheral devices and the company is widely considered to be the gold standard for innovation and quality peripheral products," said Charles Huang, vice president business development for RedOctane. "With Logitech, we know we have found the right partner who can deliver top-quality premium hardware that consumers have come to expect from Guitar Hero."

"As huge fans of Guitar Hero(R), we are very excited about the opportunity to bring the Logitech experience to the Guitar Hero franchise," said Bruce Lancaster, vice president and general manager of Logitech's gaming business. "A few years ago, Logitech refined the consumer steering wheel market with high-end controllers that enhance racing games. Now we are looking forward to elevating the market for premium music-based video game controllers in a similar fashion."

Guitar Hero World Tour is being developed by Neversoft Entertainment for the Xbox 360(R) video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and PLAYSTATION(R)3 computer entertainment system. The Wii(TM) version is being developed by Vicarious Visions. The PlayStation(R)2 computer entertainment system version is being developed by Budcat. The game is not yet rated by the ESRB. It's got to be a very tense situation there, legal-wise.
Not to mention the entire militia on both sides is mounted up, showing their flags and roaring for blood.

We all want them to work with everything. Let's be good about this guys! Tread carefully...

They NEED to make the GH4 drums compatible with all games. Because my original RB drums broke, so I'm not taking my chances with the RB2 drums (and the GH4 drums look cooler). So that means if they aren't compatible, I will have to but a second drumset for RB2. Good thing all the songs on RB will be available on RB2, because I am NOT buying three drumsets...

I prefer GH, but I think GH3 made RB better. GH1 > GH2 > RB > GH3 > GHA > GH80 > GHOT. I think GHWT will be after RB, and RB2 will be just above RB. And GHM will be above GH1. IMHO.
