Getting the word out

Anyone have any suggestions on what we can do to attract more members to Xbox Ohio? We have a slim and hard to reach (on the web) target audience. Advertising on Xbox 360 related websites wouldn't do much good, because a very small fraction of those who view the ad would be from Ohio. I think the best way is word of mouth. Any ideas?

Create a Google AdSense account and make a special page with just the Ads so they don't make the site look like crap. We then click on the ads to make money to buy and ad in a gaming magazine. Perfect!

Well, one thing is that anyone that posts in the Xbox forums should have an xboxohio link in their signature. Not much, but it is there every time they read your post.

It's kind of like buying lottery ticket. If you don't buy any, then you have zero chance of wining.

How about a Donation section? Or posting in a paper?? Columbus Dispatch?? Then have new people respond how they found your site. Like a poll on the side. If you made up an ad i would chip in for it to be put in the paper. Or better yet you could even hold a Tournament with a cash prize. Have people pay $20 to enter and do 4x4 Halo style. Or Perfect Dark or whatever. If you get together enough people they will come to your site. Also i found this site In Columbus Ohio Were you might be able to have this Event. They Have Tournaments every once and awhile. If you contact them i'm sure you can work something out. http://www.gamesug.com/tournaments/ There Prizes are like $100. I'm sure we all can show up and chip in. I'm game for that. You can have him Link your site and also have flyers passed out at his store. Well Its all food for thought. Just Thought i might help.

This will also attract spammers, unfortunately. Which would require a bit of mods to delete daily spam-posts. I am a mod on a couple big forums, and I delete a couple a day...
And the point is, its hard to get more people, because they arent always from Ohio, like Pasta said. I sent messages to all my friends on XBOX Live, forgetting its an Ohio forum. Fortunately one of them ended up being from Ohio in the Toledo area.

Also, this is against the Google AdSense rules, so we wouldn't make any money. I think the best way is like ragedemonX said, just tell all your friends, family, co-workers, etc.
