Found a solution to my 360 problems

As people like Ninja and OneShot know, the layout of my home is really weird. I've not been willing to shell out 100 dollars for a wireless adapter for my 360, and I'm using a 50-foot cable to connect my 360 in the living room to the modem in my dad's home office. Apparently I can use my laptop to connect my 360 to the wireless network we have at home.

"What you have to do is connect your laptop wirelessly then share the wireless internet connection this will assign an ip like 192.168.0.1 to the ethernet port to which you will connect your x360 and all should be fine."

I smell spagetti...LOL i had that problem with the wire's ran throughout the house. I pony'ed up and got a wireless..Although they say hardwire is the best...

Hardwire is the best since wireless can only communicate at up to 54mbps throughput, and wired travels at 100mbps. In theory, sharing out your internet connection will work, by either using Windows ICS or manually going to the connection and sharing it out. You will only get up to 54mbps (probably more like 10 - 15), but you shouldn't really notice a steep decrease in performance.

A friend and I tried fooling around with ICS one night, but we were both drunk and I was burned out from work, so I fiddled with it for like 45 minutes, took a couple shots of tequilla and passed out on the couch, lol. Good times!

d-link makes a gaming adapter for like $60 that works at 108mbps wireless, it has good range too

I'm going to have a similar predicament tomorrow when I get my new tv. There's no way I'll be able to use an ethernet cable anymore. I've tried sharing / bridging the connection before but haven't made any headway. I'll try again tomorrow when I move my 360.

Yes, LinkSys makes a gaming bridge as well. There's a couple of cheaper options than the outrageously priced $100 counterpart. For instance, I know with linksys if you have one LinkSys Router, you can buy another LinkSys router (about $50) and set the second one up as a relay through their Web interface. What this means is that the second LinkSys router gets an internet signal from the first (via wireless), and you can plug your peripherials into the ethernet ports to get connectivity (it'll be wired, but traveling at wireless speeds), which is a pretty good solution. Netgear also makes a stand alone print server/switch that receives an internet signal from a wireless device (like your router) and allows you to connect up to four wired devices to it for connectivity.

I might need one of those wireless extenders so I get a slightly better signal in my room. I get like 3 bars for my ping, depending on where the server is located obviously.
Also I know wired is the preferred method, but my parents hate having the cable running through the house. So it's either connect the 360 to my laptop to get a wireless signal or no online for me except every once in a while. I hate my tiny screen tho. >.<
