Underoath was awesome, I saw them at the 2008 Rockstar Mayhem Fest. That was an amazing concert, everyone was great, except Dragon Force...what a bunch of douche's. That was the first time I saw Slipknot and Disturbed...11 hours of straight metal, it was awesome...

I found http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=10837987 Poets of the Fall thanks to Max Payne. The song "Late Goodbye" is the closing credits. They are a finnish band. I really like them more than other bands in the genre. No one I've ever met had heard of them before.

Ayup, Theatre of Tragedy is awesome. Other great, lesser-known bands* in a similar vein are Leaves' Eyes, Nightwish and Epica. All feature incredible female vocalists and thrilling, dramatic instrumentation.
A few bands I really like that aren't well-known are Averse Sefira, black metal with intriguing lyrics and extreme, powerful presentation from right here in Texas; Juno Reactor which is ecletic, engaging electronic music featured in movies like The Matrix, and Vykaslat, my experimental industrial/electronic black noise project.
*here in the US. Globally, and specifically in Europe, they have pretty big followings and play large shows.

a really good old Christian death metal band is Mortification. Circle of Dust was a really good, techno-industrial Christian band sort of like NIN. Apple Bath used to be awesome heavy Christian rock, I think they softened up a bit later.

My favorite album of theirs is Thickfreakness. Their last 2 LPs(Magic Potion and Attack & Release) were with a bigger record company so you might only find their early shit online. They're just 2 guys from Akron and they have a serious bluesy rock sound. Trust me, you'll dig em. Strange Times off Attack & Release was on Radio Broker on GTA4. Danger Mouse has producer credits on that album.
The guitarist/vocalist Dan Auerbach has a solo album out too witch is badass as well.

I like Anarchy Club a lot. They're a Harmonix band, so they aren't too popular, but they're amazing. I also like this guitarist called Killr Buckeye. He's an amazing player, and has two singles on iTunes.
