Alright, settle down now. Since I started this thread I'll put an end to this debate.
GnR may have once been considered heavy metal, but since the real GnR hasn't made an album since '91 I'd say it's safe to put em under classic rock. I was in 4th or 5th grade when Appetite really made them famous and by those days standard they were heavy metal. Oviously they're not metal by today's standard. And for the record I hate speed and or death metal. I can't stand the guys who sound like they're chewing on the microphone. And I'm not the biggest fan of metal all together. I can count on maybe both hands the number of metal bands I like.

Mike just owned ya'll so hard you didn't even realize it was going on.
To wit: "metal" music is about applying the spec's to the sound--it's cold, hard, precise, brutal and effective music.
It is a style of playing and there is no universal theme; a band's name and symbolism will tell you what they mean to purvey with the music.
Metal is played/performed by artists who use musical techniques that mimic machines in that the musical passages are often elongated staccato at very high tempo. It is this adherence to purity of technique/discipline to practicing that separates metal from the other heavy noise stuff that is heavily studio-produced, keyboard effects added, etcetera.
Rock 'n roll is diametrically opposed to metal in almost every way--rock is about playin' it cool, takin' it easy, lettin' notes slide, bend or flange around.
Guns 'n Roses is a "rock and roll" band. Slash can play his guitar like nobody's business, but there is a big distinction between bluesy-rock jamming and hammering out a flat fifth scale in 16th's.

ya..but i clicked on the link as well and then on the wikipedia link and i found this....
One band that reached diverse audiences was Guns N' Roses. In contrast to their glam metal contemporaries in L.A., they were seen as much rawer and more dangerous. With the release of their chart-topping Appetite for Destruction (1987), they "recharged and almost single-handedly sustained the Sunset Strip sleaze system for several years."
now i just thought i would point that out..personally i like most music except for screamers and techno...GnR is alright...there songs get old after you listen to them more that 10 times..IMO

Just to clear everything up, Indiana Jones does in fact suck, therefore I cannot seem to think that anyone who supports it so much has any say so in this discussion. I don't even really like Guns and Roses, but I still don't see what gave you the right to throw them down. If you don't like metal, or rock, then what is it that you listen to?
Screw Indiana Jones, it is probably one of the worst series of movies to ever exist.

He was basically doing the same thing to everyone in here who liked GNR. How hard would it have been to just not post in the thread if he didn't like it? He simply said GNR sucked, I simply said Indiana Jones sucked , I don't see where I did anything wrong??
